Riding the Cat Train to the Cat Temple for New Year Blessings!

Good morning,😁I’m Atsuko, currently in Sangenjaya. I’m about to take a cute cat train and go for the first temple visit of the New Year The cat train runs on the Setagaya Line and its schedule is posted at the station.

I got a 380 yen (≒$2.62) unlimited one-day ticket for the Setagaya Line at the station counter. if you are paying with cash, put it in that box. For IC cards, use the card reader

There is still time before the cat train arrives, so let’s go to the Carrot Tower right next to the station! There’s a free observation deck on the 26th floor of this tower. From here you can see a bit of Mt. Fuji’s cap.

The Setagaya Line, which we are about to board, can be seen clearly. From here, the trains look like toys – so cute!” You can enjoy the view from 124 meters above the ground from this tower🥰 Wow, it’s almost time for the cat train to arrive! I need to hurry!

If you use a day pass, simply show that ticket to the station staff. Here comes the cat train !😍Kawaii🐈🐈 The Setagaya Line costs a flat fee of 160 yen per ride The train is full of Manekineko (beckoning cat) motifs! super cute! The Manekineko is a cat of good luck, inviting happiness to you.

10 trains run on the Setagaya Line, and they all have different designs. This train is green and cream. Hopefully, we’ll see all the trains today.😁 Wow, lucky! I heard that seeing this yellow train brings good luck. Best of luck to you watching this video! Let’s get off at the next Miyanosaka station.

This train is blue! Arrived at Miyanosaka Station See you later, Cat Train! At this station, an old train that used to operate in the past is on display. This train was built in 1925 and ran on the Tamagawa Line and Enoshima Line.

The train floor is made of wood, giving it a warm and cozy feel👍 You can also see the platform from inside the car. It would be nice to be here while waiting for the train! Now, let’s go to the Cat Temple!

But before we go to the temple, why don’t we have a snack? Mahorodo Sougetsu, where you can eat delicious Japanese sweets is right in front of us! Here you can enjoy not only delicious but also beautiful sweets depending on the season!

Most customers take them home, but there is also a space where you can eat them! What shall I eat? 😋The sweets are reasonably priced at around 200 to 300 yen! Hojicha Tea 280 yen (≒$1.93), Fukujuso (pheasant’s eye ) 300 yen (≒$2.07), Aomame Daifuku 190 yen (≒$1.31), Manekineko Dorayaki 200 yen (≒$1.38)

Fukujuso is popular this season as a flower that brings good fortune The sweetness is moderate and you can taste the bean paste flavor, so delicious! This is the store’s specialty, green bean daifuku. the outer rice cake melts in your mouth. This is the best! The Manekineko Dorayaki has a slight buttery flavor!

I ate the head first, sorry cat-san😅, but it’s delicious! Thank you for the delicious sweets. It was so good that I bought Daifuku as a souvenir! I’ll be back for more.😁 Oh, this is a lavender-colored train😁 Hi! Cat Train, we meet again! We’ve arrived at Gotokuji, the cat temple!

Gotokuji Temple is said to be the birthplace of Manekinekos. Passing through the magnificent stone gate, you will see an avenue lined with pine trees. Beautiful😉 Now, let’s visit the Manekineko! A guardian lion rests on a magnificent incense burner. Konnichiwa, guardian lion-san, would you like to play soccer with me?

This is the three-story pagoda, 22.5 meters high, and several cats are hiding in this tower. Let’s see if we can find them. Oh, there’s one😍 There’s another one over there! You are not a cat, are you?

This bell was made in 1679. It is a designated tangible cultural property of Setagaya Ward. They ring the bell every day at 5:00 p.m. I would like to hear what sound it makes The Manekineko can be seen there. Let’s go there.

Gotokuji Temple’s Manekineko is unique, raising its right paw without holding a gold coin. It is generally believed that a Manekineko with its right leg raised invites money and a cat with its left leg raised invites people.

But Gotokuji’s Manekineko just gives you a chance to meet people, and it is up to you to make the most of that chance to increase your money and good fortune.

If you always live with gratitude, good fortune and money will come naturally. To teach this, the Manekineko at this temple is said to carry no gold coin. By the way, Manekineko can be taken home and returned to the temple when your wishes come true!

There are Manekineko everywhere, but did you notice any animals that are not cats? Let me know in the comments if you find out! If you find it, you are sure to get good luck!😁🍀 Even this place is filled with cats!🤣

This is an ema (votive tablet), a Manekineko, and this year’s zodiac sign, the dragon! nice😍 The long line over there is for people who want to buy a Manekineko. I got a red stamp for 300 yen (≒$2.07). A Manekineko is written on the seal. Kawaii🥰

There are many cherry trees in the temple, It must be beautiful in spring! I will come back to see you again, Manekineko! I’m getting hungry now, so let’s go to the next place! I wonder what color train will come? Oh, you, we met earlier!

Hi, Blue Train-san, I also met you a while ago. Oh, a light blue train and a red train! This is Kamimachi station, the station next to Miyanosaka station. I hear there is a delicious steamed meat bun shop here.

Wow, there is a long queue in front of the store😲 They must be selling some tasty steamed buns. After about 30 minutes of waiting, I was able to finally buy it! There’s a park near here, so I’ll go there and eat. The site of the castle has been turned into a park

The castle here was closed down by Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the Warring States period. The view is nice. Let’s eat steamed meat buns here! This is a steamed meat bun! 248 yen (≒$1.71) Brown sugar bread 140 yen (≒$0.97) And curry steamed bun 259yen (≒$1.79)

They were all very tasty, with fluffy skin and juicy filling! Earthen mounds and empty moats remain in this park. Oh, and there seems to be a female ghost living here, so please do not disturb her at night!😉 Now, let’s go back to Sangenjaya‼

Hey, Train-san, this is the third time I’ve seen you today. I ended up seeing 7 different Setagaya lines today! Wow, I could see the cat train at the end of the day! I’m so happy! Lastly, let’s go see the sunset at Carrot Tower where we went in the morning!

You can see the beautiful cityscape of Shinjuku. The sun is setting toward Mt. Fuji. You can see a little bit of Mt.Fuji How was your trip on the Setagaya Line? If you have a chance, please take the cute train and visit the cat temple Thank you for watching until the end!🥰

I took the Cat Train to Gotokuji Temple, famously known as the Cat Temple, for my New Year’s first visit to the temple!

Gotokuji is a delightful temple to explore. It’s also recognized as the birthplace of the Manekineko (beckoning cats)!

The operating hours of the Cat Train are updated daily on the website and displayed at the station. If you happen to have a little extra time before the cat train arrives, I recommend checking out the Carrot Tower in Sangenjaya! It offers a fantastic view, and the best part is, it’s free!

While you’re in the area, consider stopping by Mahorodo Sougetsu, a Japanese confectionery shop located on the way from Miyanosaka station to Gotokuji station. They serve delicious Japanese sweets that you’ll definitely enjoy!

The steamed buns and the sweets looked so good- makes me wish there was a Japanese sweets shop and restaurant (Not just sushi) near me!
Thank you Atsuko san, for posting the places so many would miss if they booked a trip to Japan without any 'inside knowledge'. It's these gems you share that make your videos so incredible!
