You’re looking at hundreds of Pacific walruses, resting on the shore of a remote island in Alaska’s Walrus Islands State Game Sanctuary. Every day, the island’s two field technicians traverse its steep slopes to monitor its wildlife. I took this picture while scrambling across the tundra behind them, to give a sense of human scale in the dramatic terrain.”
