“When photographing children, the main goals for our gear are speed and ease of use. We’re constantly on the go and need to make sure the equipment we’re using can keep up with our hectic schedule. We recently upgraded to the Canon EOS R3 as our main go-to camera. Although the EOS R3 is most known for its high speed, we find it useful even for our portrait photography. The autofocus point moves to whatever part of the frame your eye is looking at, giving us a huge advantage when photographing kids because we can easily capture those in-between moments which is often where the magic happens during a shoot.

We still adore our Canon EOS R5 and keep it around for backup photos and videos. Our go-to lens is the Canon RF28-70mm F2 L USM. When working with kids we have to move quickly, so the 28-70mm lens is versatile enough to give us the variety we need without having to switch out our lenses too often. Our Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens has been our workhorse portrait lens for years and continues to be one of our favorites. For other essentials, we never leave home without clamps to help adjust clothing, fruit snacks for a quick bribe, and pins and clips to adjust hair on the go!”
