“Nature is often referred to as ‘food for the soul.’ As a landscape and outdoor photographer who normally is in nature and now is not, it’s been quite different, and even challenging at times, not having that constant exposure and the ‘food for my soul’ that I’m so used to.

However, instead of being negative and focusing on what I can’t control, I’m doing my best to stay positive and focus on what I can control, learning, growing, and staying creative during this time.

I was inspired by several creatives, and challenged by my friends at @canonusa, to step outside of my comfort zone and use shots I’ve taken in the outdoors as inspiration, and recreate them out of food items–the food for my soul, turned into a foodscape!

So here is the first of this photo series, called “Food for the Soul.” The first three shots were inspired by a recent photo I took back in January (photo 4). I was blown away by the size of the incredible Sequoia trees, and thought carrots might resemble the massive, orange tree trunks they are characterized by. I also used kale for the low lying branches, and dried oregano leaves for the ground cover, backlighting the structure with small lights and warm gels, to create a sunlight effect.

I used my @canonusa 5D Mark IV and EF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens, to get the perfect, up close shot I was looking for, that captured as much detail as possible. I hope you all like it, and hopefully a few more of these will follow!” – @nathanleeallen #EOS5DMarkIV #cocreatewithcanon #foodforthesoul
