🎨 ABOUT THE MUSÉE D’ORSAY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🚉 The Gare d’Orsay was built by Victor Laloux in just two years and opened on July 14, 1900, for the Paris World’s Fair.
🏛️ Threatened with demolition in the 1970s, the station was turned into a museum and inaugurated on December 1, 1986.
🖼️ The museum covers art from 1848 to 1914 and holds the world’s largest collection of Impressionist masterpieces.
🌻 Since 2024, a room is devoted to Vincent van Gogh, with Starry Night Over the Rhône and two of his self-portraits.
🌅 In 1874, Monet and his friends held their own exhibition, where a critic mocked Impression, Sunrise and gave Impressionism its name.
🗿 The museum holds more than 2,200 sculptures, from Carpeaux’s The Dance to Rodin’s Walking Man.
🎉 Nearly 4 million visitors come every year, and in 2026 the museum celebrates its 40th anniversary.
