Kanazawa is about 4 hours from Hiroshima by train, and it’s worth every minute. Seafood here is famous and cheaper than in Tokyo or Osaka, so I did it like a food tour: 3 sushi bars and 1 izakaya in one night, a hungover oyster breakfast at Omicho Market, a quiet walk through Kenrokuen, and Kaga roasted tea when I couldn’t face a beer.

But honestly? Everything was leading up to one thing: the best Mont Blanc I’ve ever had, in the Higashi Chaya district. And I don’t even like sweets.
