🇯🇵 Discover a hidden side of Yokosuka, Kanagawa!
In late March 2026, I visited Mt. Takatori, a former stone quarry with dramatic rock walls, rock-climbing areas, and a mysterious Buddha carving known as the Magaibutsu.
Along the way, we also explore Dobuita Street, home of the famous Yokosuka Jumper (Sukajan), and try three local specialties: Navy Curry, Navy Burger, and Cherry Cheesecake.
At Mt. Takatori, I’ll show you the route, bus stop, walking directions, the hidden Buddhist carvings, and the spectacular 360° view from the observation deck.

💡 Additonal Information 💡

*AVOID* the trail to Jin-mu-ji Station.
It is dangerous, slippery, and very steep.
RECOMMENDED: Walk back to Oppama Station.
about 30 minutes via paved roads.

*PLANNING*: Trying to do all three spots―Sarushima, Mikasa, and Takatori
―in a single day is very hard.
It’s much better to visit them on separate days.

Why is it called “*Dobuita*”?
“Dobu” means ditch, and “Ita” means board/plate.
In the early 20th century, there was a ditch running down the center of this street.
The Japanese Navy provided thick iron plates to cover it so people could walk easily.
That’s how it got its unique name!_
