Discover Valpolicella, one of northern Italy’s most beautiful and lesser-known landscapes, just outside Verona and close to Lake Garda.
In this video, we explore the Valpolicella valley as a place to escape to: a landscape of vineyards, olive groves, old stone villages, historic churches, elegant estates and beautiful gardens.
Our journey begins in Verona before heading into the hills of Valpolicella, where we visit the ancient village of San Giorgio di Valpolicella and its historic Pieve, surrounded by vineyards and spectacular views across the countryside.
From there, we explore the historic estates and landscapes that give Valpolicella much of its character, including Villa Rizzardi and the remarkable Giardino Pojega, an 18th-century Italian garden overlooking the vineyards.
We also visit Negrar di Valpolicella and Tenuta Santa Maria, before following the landscape towards Lake Garda and the town of Bardolino.
Although Valpolicella is famous around the world for wines such as Amarone, this is not a wine documentary. Instead, this is a journey through the valley itself — its villages, landscapes, architecture, history and atmosphere.
From medieval stone villages on the hills to Venetian and neoclassical estates, Valpolicella reveals a quieter side of northern Italy, surprisingly close to two of the country’s best-known destinations: Verona and Lake Garda.
