A Saturday evening in Osaka, walking west into the sunset — from Sakaisuji-Hommachi through the quiet office streets of Semba and Kitahama, across Nakanoshima past the red-brick Central Public Hall, along the Dojima River, through the lanes of Kitashinchi, and up into Umeda to finish at Osaka Station.

The walk starts at the top of the stairs at Sakaisuji-Hommachi just after half past five. On a Saturday the office district of Semba is almost empty, and because its east–west streets run in a straight grid, the low sun sits right at the end of every road, pouring orange light between the buildings.
North through Kitahama, past an old tiled-roof building standing among the towers, and over the river into Nakanoshima, where the Central Public Hall’s red brick turns gold in the last of the sun and the stone Nakanoshima Library stands beside it. At Yodoyabashi the crowds gather at the lights, then the path drops down to the Dojima River, the lamps coming on as the sky turns deep blue.
After dark the walk climbs into Kitashinchi, lanterns lit in its narrow lanes, and on into Umeda — past the Osaka Ekimae buildings, through a glass-roofed arcade and the lit-up towers of Nishi-Umeda — ending in the crowd in front of Osaka Station.
