A clear summer morning in Osaka — starting from Sakaisujihonmachi before six, west through the old wholesale blocks of Semba, out to the rivers and rose gardens of Nakanoshima, then north across Watanabebashi into Umeda while the city is still waking up.

The walk begins at Sakaisujihonmachi Station just before six, when the shutters are still down and the delivery trucks have the street to themselves. It heads north and west through Semba and Kitahama, the old wholesale grid where the brick facades hold the night’s cool a little longer, then crosses onto Nakanoshima — the long sandbank between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers, with its rose garden, stone bridges and empty morning paths. From there the route climbs back to street level and continues north across Watanabebashi into Nishi-Umeda, where the towers begin and the low sun starts catching the glass. It finishes around Osaka Station and Grand Green Osaka as the first commuters arrive and the day takes hold.
