You could camp just about anywhere last century, but early 2000s all those places were just treated as toilets and rubbish dumps, down south it was crazy to watch all the non self contained ruining it
Tekapo church sits under the protective dark sky reserve making it one of the worlds most famous locations for astrophotographers.
As a young child our family would go there for our summer holidays.

Love watching your NZ adventures! If you have 12V in the cab, there are small 12V car heaters, available at truck stops in the US. Also, a 12 V fan would also help to defog your window without turning on the aircon. Safe travels!
Yes we have wallaby here. They've become a pest, like the tasmanian brushtailed opossum. Our government spend millions of dollars a year to try and control these pests.

I'm a Kiwi living in Sydney and enjoying watching my homeland being seen through British eyes. It's great seeing places such as Lake Tekapo where I've never been.
The trees in the area where you spent the night after Mt Cook are all wilding self sown trees which are taking over many areas of New Zealand. The originals were planted as erosion control but have spread far and wide and are a real menace. We are spending many millions of dollars to get rid of these.
6:25 I took photos of the moon eclipse we had the other night, and the camera saw a light in the night sky and made it round 😂 I got a couple though.

I understand why but man I wish it wasn't a whole week to watch your videos! I enjoy them so much. I hope if you end up staying in Wellington again on your way up, you stop at Ngati Toa Domain. I just think it is such a beautiful view to wake up and see. Plus SH59 is way more beautiful than transmission gully! Got nothing on the views in this video though. Still so beautiful.

Your eyes 👀 weren't deceiving you definitely wallaby in NZ . They're a major pest in both islands .
As a 20 year old in 1972 I worked on a very large farm/ station on the shores of lake Pukaki. Tekapo was the place we came for entertainment. There was a pub and accommodation lodge, a grocery store and a few houses in those days. It sure has changed now days.

Yes we have wallabies, and they are an invasive species, and we are supposed to report where we see them.
the valley you zoomed in on at 50:14 you can drive up for about 20km from the other side of the main valley there is no road is a bit of privet land at the start but once you get up there is public and you can park up and camp fish and hunt a stock 4wd with a snorkel is fine just need to learn how to drive the river beds. You guy's need to slow down missed heaps of stuff in the last few vids some cool back road mountain passes you also missed the fairlie pies hope you get up to lake coleridge

1:00:23 if you're in christchurch there a road up the hill called the worsleys rd than has a lovely over look of the city it is rather steep tho so you might be better accessing it from westmorland hights
