📅 Date: Monday, June 29, 2026
☀️ Weather: Sunny
🌡️ Temperature: 31°C / 88°F
💧 Humidity: ~60%
📍 Distance: about 3.3 km / 2.1 miles
🕐 Start Time: 1:00 PM
📷 Camera: Insta360 Ace Pro 2 (4K HDR)
🗺️ Route: Osaka Station Rooftop → Toki-no-Hiroba → Umekita / Grand Green Osaka → Umekita Park → Chayamachi → Hankyu Umeda → Whity Umeda (loop back to Umeda)

The walk starts ten floors up, on the roof of Osaka Station, where a rooftop farm grows rice beside a small Japanese garden called Wa-Ragi no Niwa. The station below has been rebuilt five times since the first line to Kobe opened here in 1874; what stands now, completed in 2011, is the fifth version, with a single 180-metre roof spanning the platforms. A passage north of the fifth-floor plaza, Toki-no-Hiroba, crosses over the tracks into what used to be Umeda Freight Station — a 24-hectare rail yard that ran for 85 years until 2013, before the site became Umekita. Grand Front Osaka opened here in 2013, and Grand Green Osaka followed in 2024, its rippling timber canopy now the district’s landmark. About half of the site was left as Umekita Park, a 4.5-hectare lawn with a shallow water basin, hydrangea beds, and JAM BASE rising at its edge — still unfinished, with full completion planned for 2027. From there the route returns through Umekita Plaza and back into Osaka Station, out past Yodobashi Camera and the elevated walkways that carry pedestrians above the traffic, into Hankyu Higashi-dori and Kappa Yokocho, old shop rows tucked beneath the railway. North again to Chayamachi — literally “teahouse town,” once a rest stop on the road out of the city, now a fashion district — before doubling back past the HEP FIVE Ferris wheel to Hankyu Umeda Station, built in 1929 as one of the first department stores anywhere set into a railway terminus. The walk ends underground, through Whity Umeda and Diamor Osaka, a passage network so extensive it’s nicknamed the Umeda Dungeon.
