Have We Found France’s Most Beautiful Valley? | Rocamadour and the Dordogne 4K Walking Tour
Have we found France’s most beautiful valley? Come with us on a slow 4K walking tour through three of the loveliest villages of the Dordogne, Rocamadour, La Roque-Gageac and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. Three hours of quiet walking, filmed with only the natural sounds of each village, no narration and no music, just the walk itself.
We begin at dawn on the cliffs of Rocamadour, a sacred village built in tiers up a sheer rock face above the Alzou canyon, where pilgrims have climbed to the Black Madonna for a thousand years. From there we come down to the water at La Roque-Gageac, where ochre houses grow straight out of the golden limestone and flat-bottomed gabare boats still drift along the Dordogne. Finally we reach Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, the beautiful place, an archbishop’s name from 855 that still fits, where a great abbey stands above timber-framed houses and the river slides quietly past.
All three are officially listed among Les Plus Beaux Villages de France.
We are Michelle and Charlie, and villages like these are exactly why we film. If you have watched a few of our walks and felt, just for a moment, that you were really there, you may not have realised you are not yet subscribed. There is no pressure here, only a gentle invitation to join us and keep these quiet walks close.

Michelle and I filmed these three villages across more than one journey through the Dordogne, and bringing them together felt like one long walk down a single valley.
Rocamadour was a dawn start, and the 216 steps are as steep coming back up as they look. But standing on the ramparts with the whole canyon below made every one of them worth it.
This one runs for three hours, so there is no need to watch it in one go. Put it on, let it run, and come and go as you please.
Tell us which of the three you would wake up in tomorrow, and where you are walking with us from.
