Why Does This Thai Town Feel Like Myanmar? | Sangkhlaburi 🇹🇭

Welcome to Sangkhlaburi, one of Thailand’s most unique border towns, where Mon culture, history, and traditions continue to thrive.

In this 3-day, 2-night journey, I travel from Bangkok by bus to explore the beautiful Mon community of Wangka Village. Along the way, I stay at two very different hotels—one overlooking the famous Mon Bridge and another floating peacefully on the water beside it.

Together we’ll explore the historic Wat Wang Wiwekaram, the impressive Chedi Phutthakhaya, visit two underwater temples by boat, walk across Thailand’s longest wooden bridge at sunrise, wear traditional Mon clothing, take part in the beautiful alms-giving ceremony, and enjoy the traditional Mon breakfast known as Mon Mont Hin Khar, rice noodles soup.

I’ll also share the fascinating history of Sangkhlaburi, the story of the Mon people, the construction of the Mon Bridge, and the remarkable legacy of Luang Phor Uttama, whose vision helped shape this unique community.
