Explore Varenna – one of Lake Como’s most beautiful villages

Varenna is a peaceful lakeside village on the eastern shore of Lake Como, surrounded by dramatic mountains, elegant villas, and crystal-clear water. With its colorful houses, romantic promenade, and relaxed atmosphere, it is often considered one of the most charming destinations in northern Italy.

Getting to Varenna from Milan is easy and scenic. A direct train takes you from the city to Varenna-Esino station, just a short walk from the historic center. Ferries also connect Varenna with Bellagio, Menaggio, and other beautiful towns around Lake Como, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the lake.

The heart of Varenna is filled with narrow stone alleys, steep stairways, traditional houses, small cafés, and quiet squares. One of the most beautiful places to walk is the Passeggiata degli Innamorati, also known as the Lovers’ Walk, a romantic lakeside path with wonderful views across the water.

Above the village stands Castello di Vezio, a medieval castle overlooking Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. Varenna is also home to Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi, famous for their elegant architecture, botanical gardens, and peaceful terraces beside the lake.

    Please keep doing these. I should have moved to the Lake Region years ago. I think I waited too long and now I’m too old. I bet the people there aren’t thinking about the stuff we are thinking about in the US? What a life. Seated on a bench overlooking the glistening lake with your arm around your best friend. Man, thats living. Let’s go get a gelato…
