Fenghuang Ancient Town, located in the Xiangxi region of western Hunan, China, is one of the country’s most beautiful and iconic riverside ancient towns. The Tuojiang River flows gently through the town, with old stilt houses lining its banks. Stone-paved streets, wooden houses, ancient bridges, and distant green mountains come together to create a picturesque waterside scene filled with Eastern charm.

Fenghuang Ancient Town becomes even more misty and poetic in the rain. Clouds and fog cover the distant mountains, while the rain darkens the wooden buildings and stone streets. The river reflects the old architecture along its banks. Walking slowly beside the Tuojiang River, the entire town seems hidden between mist and flowing water, like a real riverside dream.

🌿 Travel Tips
Spring is especially suitable for experiencing the misty, rainy atmosphere shown in this video. From March to May, the weather is mild, and mist often gathers in the mountains after rain. September to November is cooler and fresher, making it another ideal time for a slow walk along the Tuojiang River.

Fenghuang Ancient Town is not large, so there is no need to rush. You can first walk along both sides of the Tuojiang River, cross the ancient bridges, and then explore the old streets and quiet alleys. There are fewer visitors early in the morning, making it easier to experience the peaceful side of the town. At night, the illuminated buildings create a completely different atmosphere. The stone-paved streets and riverside steps can be slippery on rainy days, so wear comfortable, non-slip shoes and bring a lightweight umbrella.

    Time stood still! A unique quaint old town. The mist makes it more majestic and picturesque with its background water wheel and the pagoda. I would not mind visiting!
