Located in Nanjo City, southern Okinawa, Sefa-utaki is the most sacred site of the Ryukyu Kingdom—where kings and priestesses once prayed for prosperity and peace.
Walking along the forested path, you’ll discover mysterious spaces formed by massive rocks, and a prayer spot overlooking Kudaka Island. The serene atmosphere clears your mind, as if nature itself were the deity. Listen closely to the sound of birds and the wind, and you’ll feel the spiritual traditions cherished by the Ryukyuan people for centuries.
Recognized as part of the “Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu,” Sefa-utaki was inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 2000.
