I spent a night at Tokyu Stay Takanawa, right across from TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, which had its grand opening in March 2026. It’s a 5-minute walk from JR Takanawa Gateway Station, and an almost unbelievable 1-minute walk from Sengakuji Station on the Toei Asakusa Line and Keikyu Main Line. Hop on the Keikyu Line’s Airport Limited Express and you’re at Haneda Airport in about 20 minutes.

Tokyu Stay is built around the idea of “staying the way you’d live at home” — every room comes with a full washer-dryer and microwave. Thoughtful touches like a BALMUDA electric kettle and ReFa shower head and hairdryer round out a spacious 18m² room.

In this video, I take a coffee break at NEWoMan Takanawa (the shopping complex connected right to the station), track down a bowl of AFURI ramen, and visit two nearby shrines — Kurumamachi Inari Shrine and the 1,300-year-old Mita Hachiman Shrine, where I got to experience the chinowa kuguri purification ritual firsthand.
