緑豊かな宗谷丘陵の中を、紺碧のオホーツク海に向かってまっすぐに伸びる「白い道」。この道の正体は、稚内の名産であるホタテの貝殻です。一歩踏み出すと、砕かれた貝殻がふんわりと柔らかく足を包み込み、耳を澄ませばサクサクと心地よい感触が伝わってきます。丘を吹き抜ける爽やかな風には、かすかに潮の香りが混じり、北の大地の息吹を五感で楽しめます。

晴れた日には、彼方に秀峰・利尻山やサハリンの島影までも望むことができ、そのスケール感に圧倒されるでしょう。周囲を見渡せば、まるで映画のワンシーンのような風景が広がります。「稚内フットパス」のコースにも指定されており、サイクリングで風を感じながら巡るのもおすすめです。自然の色彩が織りなすアートのような景色を、ぜひ全身で体感してください。

The White Road is a stunning 3-kilometer pathway paved with locally sourced scallop shells. Set against the backdrop of the deep blue sea and rolling green hills, it is one of Wakkanai’s most breathtaking scenic spots.

Stretching straight through the lush Soya Hills toward the dark blue waters of the Sea of Okhotsk, the famous “White Road” is uniquely covered with crushed scallop shells, a specialty product of Wakkanai.
