【Video Overview】
The walk begins at Sendagaya Station and first heads towards the National Stadium. On the day of filming, a soccer match was being held, and the area around the stadium was bustling with supporters in their team uniforms. From there, the route proceeds to the center of Meiji Jingu Gaien, where the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery, an Important Cultural Property, stands. It was closed for seismic retrofitting at the time of filming. The path then crosses the Shinanomachi footbridge, known as a location featured in the animated film ‘Your Name.’, offering a tour through an area where sports, history, and culture coexist.
Next, the journey continues from Yotsuya Station to the Kioicho area. After passing through “”Sophia’s Promenade”” along Sophia University, the walk leads to Shimizudani Park, which contains a memorial to Okubo Toshimichi, who was assassinated in the Kioicho Incident. A highlight of this route is the Akasaka Prince Classic House, originally built in 1930 as the Tokyo residence of the former Prince Yi of Korea. This Tudor-style mansion, designed by the Imperial Household Ministry’s Maintenance and Works Department, is a Tokyo Metropolitan Designated Tangible Cultural Property, and its garden roses and hydrangeas were in full bloom during the visit.
The final segment of the walk is from Nagatacho, the political heart of Japan, to Tameike-Sanno. While viewing the symmetrical and stately architecture of the National Diet Building, the path goes through the government district lined with Diet Members’ Office Buildings. Descending the Sanno-zaka slope, the scenery changes to the sacred grounds of Hie Shrine, which served as a guardian of Edo Castle. The precincts, with their significant elevation changes, feature outdoor escalators. The walk concludes at the final destination, Tameike-Sanno Station.
