Ushijima is one of the Shiwaku Islands in the Seto Inland Sea, located about 7.7 km north of Marugame Port. Once home to the legendary Edo-era merchant Maruo Gozaemon, this island thrived with around 200 residents after World War II but has since dwindled to just 8 inhabitants. The island features two small settlements — Satoura and Koura — along with historic sites including the Maruo residence ruins, Gokurakuji Temple, Ike Shrine, and a charming red lighthouse.
