伊豆半島南部に位置する下田市は開国の街として知られ、幕末期の文化や史跡も数多く残された港町です
1854年に日米和親条約を締結し、下田と函館を開港すると7隻もの黒船ペリー艦隊が交流の為に入港しました
ペリーの黒船にあやかって「伊豆クルーズ」として黒船を模した遊覧船に乗り「下田港内めぐり」を楽しむことができます
下田港の見どころは、350mもの長い堤防で陸地とつながっている犬走島や、吊り橋を渡って上陸できる小さな島の「雁島」があります
雁島には、金目鯛の水揚げ量日本一を誇る下田ならではの、金目鯛の魚霊碑や石室神社が祀られています

Shimoda City, located in the southern part of the Izu Peninsula, is known as a city that opened up to the world, and is a port town where many cultural and historical sites from the late Edo period remain. In 1854, the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan was signed, and Shimoda and Hakodate were opened to the public, and Perry’s fleet of seven black ships entered the port for exchange. In honor of Perry’s black ships, you can enjoy a tour of Shimoda Port on a sightseeing boat modeled after the black ships on the “Izu Cruise.”
Highlights of Shimoda Port include Inubashiri Island, which is connected to the mainland by a 350m long breakwater, and the small island of Karijima, which can be accessed by crossing a suspension bridge. On Karijima, there is a fish monument dedicated to the red snapper and a stone chamber shrine, unique to Shimoda, which boasts the highest amount of red snapper landings in Japan.
