Edo Highways 2026 : The Journey from Akasaka-juku 56 post to Tarui-juku 57 post on the Nakasendo

Tarui-juku is a town situated at the western end of Gifu Prefecture.
It is a post town that once thrived as a junction where the Nakasendo and Mino roads crossed, and as the town in front of the Nangū Taisha Shrine. The town centre is laid out in a key-shaped pattern, and visitors can catch a glimpse of the old streetscape as they stroll through the town, evoking memories of days gone by. With numerous historical sites, such as the ‘Stone Torii Gate of Nangū Taisha’ and ‘Tarui no Izumi’ (a spring said to be the origin of the town’s name, which still flows from beneath a prefecturally designated natural monument—a large zelkova tree), this post town offers a highly rewarding travel experience.
We also recommend combining your visit with a tour of the historic battle sites along the ‘Sengoku Road’ in Sekigahara.
