ITALIAN LUNCH in SCILLA – Calabria’s Most Beautiful Town
Scilla is one of Calabria’s most beautiful towns, a place of timeless beauty where dramatic mountains meet the crystal-clear Tyrrhenian Sea in the southern Italy. Join me as I explore its fine sandy beach, colorful fishermen’s boats, charming streets, and small houses climbing the hills above the coast.
After discovering this gorgeous seaside town, I’ll sit down for an Italian lunch that turns out to be a genuine surprise. Come along and experience the scenery, atmosphere, and flavors that make Scilla such a special place in southern Italy.

It's crazy that some people just live in places like this.
Magnifique Alex , merci à toi Alex que tu fasses découvrir la Sicile au autres personnes,
moi même je suis sicilien.
❤
Why not return the dish, why pay for something that is not edible. So what if it is not a full season, the restaurant is open and they should serve proper food.
thank you for the advice!
Thank you.
Egr. Alex, complimenti per le immagini spettacolari. Un consiglio: visiti anche la Calabria del Nord (la provincia di Cosenza), ne vale la pena!
❤
This is why i would never patronize touristy restaurants.
Thanks for the honest review Alex . 20 euros for a below average plate of pasta is inexcusable . And to be served that up in such a lovely location must have been so disappointing
Scilla is deep in the N'drangheta territory so the restauramts are probably paying a 'pizzo' or even run by the Nasone-Gaietti clan. It's a lovely area such as shame it is infiltrated with organised crime
I am actually from Scilla and live about 15 meters away from the restaurant you reviewed.
Maybe the Paccheri were bad. I have never eaten at that specific restaurant myself, so I can’t judge that meal. If the food was disappointing, you have every right to say so.
What I find unfair is how quickly you turned one experience into a judgment of an entire town.
Scilla is a small fishing village in Calabria, not a huge city with hundreds of restaurants. Many restaurants are family-run businesses, and many of them have been serving locals and visitors for generations. Suggesting that 90% of the restaurants are tourist traps based on a single meal is a very strong claim that simply isn’t supported by the experience shown in the video.
Another thing that many foreigners don’t understand is that locals and tourists often eat differently. Many Italians cook pasta at home several times a week. When people go out in Scilla, they often choose seafood, swordfish, local fish dishes, pizza, or regional specialties that the area is actually known for. Scilla has a centuries-old fishing tradition and is famous throughout Calabria for its seafood.
You also visited in April, which is still considered the off-season. Anyone who knows coastal towns in Southern Italy understands that April and peak summer season can feel like two completely different places. Some businesses are not fully operating yet, some restaurants are still preparing for the season, and many of the most popular places are much livelier during the summer months.
What disappointed me most is that many viewers who have never been to Scilla will watch this video and assume that the town is full of bad restaurants. That is not a fair representation of a place based on one dish in one restaurant on one day.
Criticizing a restaurant is completely legitimate. Generalizing an entire town and its food culture is not.
Scilla deserves better than being reduced to a single plate of Paccheri.
One restaurant is not Scilla. One plate of Paccheri is not Calabrian cuisine.
Oh, my. Well, you have found enough excellent restaurants to make up for the few unpleasant ones. "Criminal." I had not heard you say that about food or service before. I absolutely enjoyed your video of the surroundings. The fortress, the views, the sea, the sand…exquisite. Thank you, Alex.
Clearly, the culinary quality does full justice to the ancient monsters Scylla and Charybdis! "Medousa" in "Scilla" – Nomen est omen, as the Latins say.
Did you do your research before you went that almost everything is closed
SIMPLE : ANOTHER GREAT REPORT. BRAVO❤
Fantastic!!
Oh no, what a disappointment, I’m sorry that you ate poor quality food. I think that that is unacceptable for sure.
Interesting as ever but I offer a few thoughts; firstly that whilst you mentioned Scilla (with the sandy beach), many of the images were of Chianalea round the headland where the sea comes up to the houses; this was misleading.
We have visited Scilla and Chianalea twice, and I applaud your trying a clearly local dish (Paccheri alla Scillese) but you described it as ‘…cod-meat’ whereas the menu said it said swordfish ?
It is fantastic that you call out poor food in Italy which is inexcusable, but the confusion over the presumably unidentifiable fish was another bad mark for the dish (and anyway, why use cod – a North Atlantic fish – in a place where they still catch swordfish ?).
Whilst there are some tourist trap restaurants in Tropea – particularly along the main street, there are a far greater number of much better ones down the alleyways and little squares even 50m away, and we felt we ate well there.
The main food recommendation we were given for Scilla and Chianalea almost unanimously by Calabrians was to have a swordfish panino which have had twice, both of which were excellent.
Beautifully filmed and some lovely images.
thanks for another video upload. all your videos are top tier. have a great day always. salut 🥂
Highly appreciate the honest reporting, very good
Spada is swordfish in Italian. Some of the famous dishes in Sicily,it usually very fresh.

Best pasta you can have in Scilla is at Pasta & Vita. Just amazing, tasty and on point. Loved it. Scilla is a beautiful place. One of my favorites in whole Italy. The people there are so friendly and kind. My last time there was last month and my most beautiful vacation ever.
