Our experience at HOTEL CLAD was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences we have had in Japan.
The booking clearly displayed a room price, and nowhere during the reservation process was it clearly stated that the hotel would charge separately per person. However, upon check-in, the hotel suddenly demanded additional payment for another guest. This felt extremely misleading and unreasonable.
What was even more shocking was the attitude of the front desk staff. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they were aggressive, impatient, and intimidating. When we questioned the unclear pricing policy, the staff immediately escalated the situation and even threatened to call the police, despite the hotel failing to provide clear evidence that these extra charges had been properly disclosed beforehand.
This is completely unacceptable hospitality behavior, especially in Japan where service standards are usually respected worldwide.
Travelers should be very careful when booking this hotel. Even if you believe you already paid for the room, you may still face unexpected charges during check-in. The hotel’s pricing transparency is extremely poor, and the customer service attitude was cold, hostile, and disrespectful.
We left feeling pressured, uncomfortable, and deeply disappointed.
There are many better hotels in the Gotemba area that actually respect their guests. We absolutely would not stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel to international travelers.
