Two Weeks in Japan’s most Underrated Region — Chugoku Roadtrip with my Mom
My mom visited me for two weeks and we explored the Chugoku region, which I personally think is the most underrated out of all 8 regions in Japan. From seeing the preserved streets of Hagi in Yamaguchi, the quaint towns of Tsuwano and Omori, along with Izumo Taisha and Matsue Castle in Shimane, the massive sand dunes in Tottori, to ending the trip in Okayama seeing Kurashiki and hopping over to the art island of Teshima, there was already so much and yet I know there’s still so much more (including Hiroshima which we could not fit in this trip).

Man I love your videos your story telling and videography
finally
There's so much to Japan, and each region has its own hidden gems, but some just happen to have more! Can't wait to get back to Chugoku to dive deeper into each prefecture and perhaps make an entire video on Hiroshima since I feel bad it didn't make it in this video.
what camera and lens do you use ?? great content btw!!!!! <3
You actually visited every little bit of the places that I will cycle to in Shimane, except the Silver Mine. Its a really beautiful prefecture and not many know it
So glad your lovely Mom was able to join you on this epic episode. What a memorable birthday for her. I read something like only 0.2% of tourists to Japan visit the region. And there really isn’t that much YouTube content that ties it together like you did. By the way, the shrub is a Pittosporum tobira—okay, okay I’m a landscape architect. I’ll specify that species for some of my projects here in Northern California. Another good one Ryan. As always travel safely and I look forward to what’s next!
Hi Ryan, I've just started trying to make videos as well. And I just wanted to say that you have been a huge inspiration to me. From your passion and ideas to your shooting and editing, I have truly learned a lot from you. Thank you for the amazing videos, and let's all wish for a life with no regrets!
Ryan staying in some nice places with super good looking food when Mom's around!

17:58 – stunning sunset shot
Wow, amazing vid – this is top tier YT. The balance you've found between story/history and the stunning shots is superb 👌
Awesome visuals and recap.
7:56 Your meat-cooking skills are amazing! 👍❤👍You seem very familiar with Japanese preferences😆
11:29 This scene is awesome! 👍
Honestly…the shot of your mom sitting on the engawa looking out onto a beautiful garden whilst drinking a bowl of matcha……..the whole frame was an emersion in green…..one of my favorites!
legit the best ad read ive ever seen in a video
Thanks!
The Master has done it again! You keep on elevating your videos and adding to my Japan tour list. Just purchased plane tickets to return to Japan in February, starting at the Sapporo Snow festival and ending on the Izu Peninsula, the latter being inspired by your video 👍 Thanks for sharing your travels with us 🇨🇦
6:04 This flower is called Kinmokusei
27:59 the statues of children on the art island is so moving 🥹
Every time I watch your videos I’m blown away by how many beautiful places in Japan are overlooked. I need to visit Omori, looks so peaceful and rich in culture. 👏🏼

I always love watching your videos and seeing the beautiful sights of Japan through your lens. I’m so glad I discovered your channel. Every video is beautiful, and I always look forward to the next one. Thank you for sharing these wonderful experiences with us—I really love your content. I love Japan so much.
BRAVO!! Your videos make me long for Japan as it was my home for 5 years. There is no place like it❤
Been keen on visiting Izumo Taisha Shrine and the Adachi Museum of Art for a long time, thanks for showing us a few other Chūgoku places worth checking out, Ryan 🙇🏻♂
( the view of the Seto Ohashi Bridge from the Washuzan observation deck was sensational )
Absolutely stunning 💯 and so fitting that your mother was there for mothers day ❤ you have shown so many side's of Japan, you are one very talented young man, thank-you for sharing this very special time with all of us 👌💫👍
i am so so glad that you went to okayama as well. That place is criminally underrated!
This is one of my favorite videos of yours. And it is so nice to see your mom again.
She is a great mom and you have a wonderful relationship with her.
Especially right after the tragic story of the Alabama boy、who had an argument with her mom and that was the last thing he did with her.
😞
Any way Chugoku region has more fascinating places like Fukiya furusato Mura, Chorakuji temple and Onomichi.
And you missed my favorite creature there, Giant Salamander.
Also watch “Woman in Dunes” by Teshigahara which was shot in Tottori with a super intriguing story and eye opening visual images.
Search it on you tube, you can watch now for free.
Hope your mom will come back, maybe next year, and explore more places with you.
Love to see a new video from from Ryan. Makes my soul happy haha
Would love to see a video of how you were able to get the van and register it (given Japanese law), how much you spent on the camera gear and how you came up with the idea to record your trip, how do you handle the loneliness (I've solo bike packed so I know how it can get) etc.
Also bro, I'm sure your mother must be incredibly proud of you! Being able to speak Japanese, accomplished film maker and photographer, etc. Keep it up man!
ahhhh sooo incredibly beautiful 💘💚
移動距離長すぎ!
I had the chance to visit Hagi last year and it was by far my favorite part during my trip to Japan. Seeing Tokoji, the castle ruins and the castle town filmed and displayed so beautifully was refreshing and brought me back to this wondeful city. You really did it justice! Congrats for such an amazing video!
Beautiful! Another amazing video. Thank you.
18:27 “felt cute, won’t delete later” vibe 🤭
The real 中国 could also be a great place to explore! Jokes aside, I hope you get a sponsorship after your visa expired! I still want to see more of your beautiful cinematic vids of Japan!
PS: where are the underwater photos? 😁
You're showing us a beautiful Japan…
Thanks for another awesome video Ryan! I planned a trip for this October and I can't wait to experience the autumn colors. I'm also happy for you! You got to create wonderful memories with your mom, cherish those. I'll be looking forward to your next video
40.9k subs let gooo!!!
If you are visiting Akiyoshidai in Yamaguchi, I highly recommend seeing inside the Doukutsu limestone cave. It's incredible!
