3 Days in Okayama, Japan (with Kurashiki and Naoshima day trips)

Join me on a 3 day journey through Okayama Prefecture, one of Japan’s most incredible yet under-the-radar regions. In this travel vlog, we taste the local favorite Demi-Katsudon and explore the gorgeous Koraku-en Garden in Okayama City. We will step back in time to the Edo period at the tranquil Bikan Historical Quarter in Kurashiki, complete with a traditional canal boat tour and a visit to the hilltop Achi Shrine. Finally, we take a ferry ride from Uno Port to the art island of Naoshima to see the iconic Yayoi Kusama pumpkins and the world famous art museums. Whether you are looking for a scenic escape or a deep dive into Japanese culture, Okayama and the surrounding areas should not be missed!

  1. Okayama. Gateway City to Shikoku Island. In Japan whenever I want to eat cheap, delicious, quick food, I always go for Matsuya / Yoshinoya / Sukiya. If these 3 are not around, Convenience Store bento will be backup choice.

  2. Thank you for another brilliant Japan video. As a Japanese I can confidently say you make some of the best Japan travel videos! Even though I am very familiar with these places, it is still cool to see it from a foreigner's view. I especially loved the Kurashiki section. You should come back in the spring. As for the no video rule in Chichu museum, you are only not allowed to shoot in the galleries. You can shoot in other places around the museum and shoot the architecture too. They are very proud of the architecture. But I praise you for following the rules. Judging by your comments about Naoshima, I think you will prefer Teshima nearby. It feels even more like an open air art island. The art islands are popular for the Setouchi triennale, which is a massive art festival held every three years. I'm not sure if they have it this year.

  3. Brings back great memories from my trip to Okayama where I found it to be a great base for a number of day trips including naoshima island and kurashiki even went to tottori visit the sand dunes and the sand museum. Looking forward to more Japan videos to inspire future trips happy travels and keep up the great work 😀
