Join me as I return to Koh Lanta, one of Thailand’s most beloved islands, to find out if I got it wrong the first time. On my previous visit, I left feeling a little underwhelmed, but after hearing from so many of you who told me this island was special, I decided to come back and give it another chance. Over three days, I explore the beaches, food, viewpoints, national parks, caves, and hidden corners of Koh Lanta to see if this island really deserves its cult following.

In this video, I stay at Twin Bay Resort and the peaceful Yang Garden Resort, before checking out a brand-new beachfront resort. I ride north to Koh Lanta Noi, discover a remote restaurant where you can kayak through the mangroves, and head south to Mu Ko Lanta National Park to visit the iconic lighthouse and some of the island’s most dramatic coastal scenery. I also take on an unforgettable cave adventure deep in the jungle.

Whether you’re planning a trip to Koh Lanta or simply wondering if this island lives up to the hype, this video will show you some of the best places to stay, things to do, and hidden experiences across the island. So, was I wrong about Koh Lanta? Watch until the end to find out if this island changed my mind.

  1. We have been to Lanta 5 times 🎉 We love the area around Klong Nin and Kantiang Bay ❤ We can not wait to go back 🥰

  2. To those planning to visit the national park, Khlong Chak Waterfall is a nice add-on while you're in the southern part of the island.

  3. ขยันหามุมสวยๆของประเทศไทย สุดยอดจริงๆ.นับถือครับ. ❤❤❤ผมคนไทยแท้ยังทำไม่ได้เท่าคุณ.
    มันคือเรื่องจริง.😅😅

  4. Given how people keep getting stuck in caves during rain storms it seems like they are very prudent to wait

  5. Great look around Paddy. The restaurant looked amazing especially the steak 😋. Your accommodation right on beach was great value.

  6. Dude, why are you traveling in Thailand in this season.. don't you think it is just plain stupid?
Also, I have not been to Lanta, but from what you are showing there is nothing to see or enjoy there.. just muddy or at best anonymous beaches, and nothing impressive in the interior of the island..
I wonder whether it is because of the bad season, or your choice of places.. or if Lanta is really an unimpressive island..

  7. Beautiful place even when cloudy/overcast. I see the skeleton. What a remarkable lil Island*.

  8. Just left there. Walked from the pier in the north to the lighthouse in the south then back again over the course of a couple of weeks. Really chill place!

  9. My experience was terrible. The hotel double booked us and when we got there to the front desk, one of the staff was punching out one of the guests right in front of everybody because the guest wanted his money back because they had double booked him also and put him in a room he didn’t want. He just wanted his money back. I was with my father and his wife and we were pretty put off but they went across the street to a different hotel and I got put in a more expensive room than I wanted. I just wanted to spend some time with my folks and it turned into a cluster fuck. We’re going back to the year 2000 here. But the Double booking stuff that was really sad. Basically they’ll take bookings over the phone, but if anybody shows up in person, they’ll sell all the rooms. So you show up and if people have showed up before you without reservations, you lose your room. Kantiang beach was also a terrible choice. It’s just rocks. It’s popular with the sweets, but I’m not ever gonna give it a second chance.

  10. Great job Paddy! My wife and I spent 10 days on Koh Lanta last year after an epic 28-day Malaysian tour. We enjoyed the slower pace and were able to really relax and soak in the local vibes. You are spot on with the feeling of community there. We found everybody very friendly and inviting with virtually no stress. Prices were cheap and affordably, and we actually just relaxed while checking out some of the amazing things to do while on the island. We found that locals would go the extra mile to make sure we were happy Veit food, travels, rentals or tours. It was a great stay and we will return. We found it so much better for a general tourist who wants to visit the "real" Thailand vs the over booked and priced tourist destinations. I would compare it to Koh Chang, Mak, Kood which we also love. We are so happy we retired in Thailand.

  11. I love and watch all of your videos but can I suggest a future one or two. How about us idiots that can’t drive a motorbike/scooter. Could you do a video where you only have public transport or grabs to get around. I’d love to visit some of the islands but seeing everything won’t be possible without my own transport. If I’m wrong can you show us how?

  12. i have always had a soft spot for koh lanta. I volunteered at LAW (Animal sanctuary) many moons ago, and it being my first authentically local thai island i've always liked it. it has developed over the decades, but after returning a year ago it does still have that feeling of being stuck in the past, in places. and i i mean that in a good way. I am happy you have seen it as it should be (eg not covid times!). I think you might like koh jum/ sriboya for more quiet and local vibes as well. both are essentially next door to lanta, and not so well known but more local and rustic.
