🌹都電荒川線 沿線のバラは
1980年代後半から1990年代頃にかけて、地域活動の一環として広がっていったと言われています。特に大塚バラロード、三ノ輪橋周辺、町屋駅前、荒川遊園地前などでは、地域住民や商店街、ボランティアの方々によってバラの植栽が続けられてきました。もともと都電荒川線は、昭和レトロな下町や古い住宅街を走る路線として親しまれていましたが、「街を明るくしたい」「沿線を花で彩りたい」という思いから、少しずつバラが増えていったそうです。現在では春と秋になると、美しいバラと都電の風景を楽しめる東京の名物スポットのひとつになっています。

現在の正式名称は「東京さくらトラム（都電荒川線）」
東京都で唯一残った路面電車路線
三ノ輪橋〜早稲田を結ぶ約12.2kmの路線
1913年（大正2年）開業
昔は東京中に都電が走っていたが、自動車交通の増加で次々廃止
荒川線だけが生き残り、“東京最後の都電”として人気に
下町の住宅街をゆっくり走る風景が特徴
春は沿線のバラや桜スポットでも有名
レトロ車両や新型車両が混在し、鉄道ファンにも人気
昭和30年代頃までは、東京には40以上の都電路線が存在していた
荒川線も一時は廃止候補だった
地域住民の利用が多く、生き残ったことで現在は観光路線としても人気
「チンチン電車」という愛称でも知られる
大塚・町屋・三ノ輪橋など、昔ながらの下町文化が今も沿線に残る
2017年から「東京さくらトラム」という愛称が付けられた

🌹 Roses Along the Toden Arakawa Line
The roses along the Toden Arakawa Line are said to have spread through local community activities from the late 1980s to the 1990s.
Areas such as Otsuka Rose Road, Minowabashi, Machiya, and Arakawa-Yuenchimae have continued planting and caring for roses through the efforts of local residents, shopping streets, and volunteers.
The Toden Arakawa Line has long been loved as a nostalgic tram route running through Tokyo’s traditional downtown neighborhoods.
Over time, people began planting roses to brighten the streets and add more color to the community.
Today, the beautiful combination of roses and the historic tram has become one of Tokyo’s iconic spring and autumn sights.
📍 About the Toden Arakawa Line
Officially known today as the “Tokyo Sakura Tram”
The only remaining tram line in Tokyo
Runs about 12.2 km between Minowabashi and Waseda
Opened in 1913
Most Tokyo tram lines disappeared due to increasing car traffic, but the Arakawa Line survived and became known as “Tokyo’s last tram.”
The line is famous for its slow ride through retro residential neighborhoods, seasonal flowers, and nostalgic atmosphere.
Until around the 1950s, Tokyo once had more than 40 tram routes.
The Arakawa Line was also once considered for closure, but survived thanks to strong local use and community support.
Today, it is popular both as transportation and as a sightseeing route.
