能島城跡は、愛媛県今治市宮窪町(しまなみ海道沿い)の沖合に浮かぶ周囲約720mの小さな無人島にあり、歴史的なロマンと、瀬戸内特有のダイナミックな自然現象が融合した非常にユニークなスポットです。戦国時代に『日本最大の海賊』と言われた村上海賊（能島村上氏）が本拠を置いた天然の海城跡で、当時の面影を残す遺構が数多く発見され、国指定の史跡、2016年には『“日本最大の海賊”の本拠地：芸予諸島－よみがえる村上海賊の記憶－』の構成文化財として日本遺産に認定されました。現在、能島は文化財保護の観点から原則上陸禁止となっているため、桜のシーズンなどの期間限定で開催される『能島上陸ツアー』でしか上陸できなくなっています。島の周囲は潮の流れが特に速い難所として知られており、最大時速約18km(10ノット)に達する激流が渦を巻くため、外敵の侵入を阻む天然の堀の役割を果たしていました。能島から近くの『村上海賊ミュージアム』前からは『能島水軍潮流体験』の遊覧船が出ており、船上から能島の遺構や迫力ある潮流を間近に見学できます。

Noshima Castle Ruins are located on a small, uninhabited island with a circumference of approximately 720m, off the coast of Miyakubo-cho, Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture (along the Shimanami Kaido). It is a very unique spot where historical romance and the dynamic natural phenomena characteristic of the Seto Inland Sea are fused together. It is the site of a natural sea castle that was the base of the Murakami pirates (Noshima Murakami clan), who were said to be “Japan’s greatest pirates” during the Sengoku period. Numerous remains that preserve the appearance of that time have been discovered, and it has been designated a national historical site. In 2016, it was designated a Japan Heritage site as a component cultural property of “The Base of ‘Japan’s Greatest Pirates’: Geiyo Islands – Reviving the Memories of the Murakami Pirates -“. Currently, landing on Noshima is prohibited in principle from the standpoint of cultural property protection, so it can only be visited on the “Noshima Landing Tour,” which is held for a limited time, such as during the cherry blossom season. The area around the island is known as a particularly dangerous stretch of water with strong currents, and the turbulent currents, reaching speeds of up to approximately 18 km/h (10 knots), create whirlpools that served as a natural moat to prevent invaders from entering. From in front of the nearby Murakami Pirate Museum, sightseeing boats offering the “Noshima Naval Force Tidal Current Experience” depart, allowing visitors to view the island’s ruins and the powerful currents up close from the water.

『日本最大の海賊』が本拠を置いた天然の海城跡とは思えないほど、現代では色んな角度で楽しめるスポットになってるような不思議な気持ちになりますね🤗
当時の石積み階段のようなものも見えますし、波打ち際の石積み護岸、特に桜🌸は強風から身を守るような形で島の湾壁とでも言いますか、低い部分に植樹されているのは当時の海賊の心の拠り所だったのかもしれませんね😊..人工的な船着場、祠に碑、新旧折り重なって歴史を物語る素晴らしい作品に仕上がってますね👌ありがとうございました🙏
