Caught in a Thunderstorm in South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ vA53-S2

I ride from Memel to Volksrust, from the Free State to Mpumalanga via KwaZulu Natal, in South Africa.
There are a lot of clouds today, and soon the clouds turn into a kind of dry thunderstorm. Now it’s just over my head ! It gets quite scary. I have to take shelter to avoid being an easy target for the lightnings.
After this unusual adventure, I resume on my way to Volksrust, but as I take a shortcut on a gravel road, I meet Eon. He is very enthusiastic about my journey, and I end up going to have coffee at his house. Another spontaneous South African hospitality, and a very pleasant conversation.

  1. Hi guys,
I reuploaded the thumbnail of this video several times before publishing it to make sure this time it works, yet somehow the video is somehow again without a thumbnail. I don't know what is going on with YouTube… I am trying my best to fix this issue.

  2. Yes quite right. The Brits could not beat the Boere without resorting to extreme dirty tactics. This was the only thing my husband (from British descent) and I (proud Afrikaner) ever fought about. I flung a bowl of pudding at him once because of the Boers and Brits.

  3. How long are you going to BS the South Africans?? We saw you on Snow and Kurts program 6 – 7 mnths ago in Mozambique when you still shows clips of you here telling us you are on your way to Mozambique. So where are you really on the 25/4/2026 ?

  4. South Africa ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ on the news ๐Ÿ‘น. In real life …๐Ÿ˜‡ every country has good and bad people, but I think South Africans, regardless of their colour, have something that shouts "South African!" – friendly, articulate, welcoming. Yves is also becoming an African. We say we don't want to eat but we will eat. We don't take a No, for a No, when it comes to food. Sending love from Kenya.

  5. What a stunningly beautiful part of the Free State โ€ฆ. Many South Africans have never seen this natural beauty โ€ฆ thank you Yves.
And yet again we see the genuine hospitality of South Africans โ€ฆ. this time from a farming family in a remote part of the Free State โ€ฆ ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ DurbanSA๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

  6. Born and raised in Volksrust (I stay in Johannesburg now) I can't wait to see you driving there and the Farm you stopped at I used to drive pass there every weekend with my Dad who passed away 4 years ago. Tears just came down watching this keep up the good work Yves. MUCH LOVE

  7. South Africans are such fantastic people. Its clear that they just have bad governments. To think that it is these very farmers that suffer from such horrific home invasions is so heartbreaking.

  8. A Big ๐Ÿ‘ up from me.
So nice to see the interaction and the hospitality of people.
    Safe travel ,
Greetings from Cape Town South Africa

  9. 32:56 My guy, the French Huguenots had a huge impact on Afrikaans culture; surnames like Cronje, Joubert, Blignaut, du Toit, de Villiers, Marais, Viljoen etc. are all old French surnames.

  10. This video is amazing; South Africans are uniquely hospitable… I was brought up with morals like these but lost them living overseas for nearly 30 years; truly heartwarming!

  11. Google the facts . Itโ€™s not true that the Brits gave the women broken glass. Though the conditions in the camps were horrific ๐Ÿ˜ข

  12. Hi Yves, you don't fear Thunderstorm and the lightnings.๐Ÿ˜ณ
This shows me the scariest stuff you struggle with on the road. Much love to you from Rwanda๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ผ

  13. As South Africans, this is what we want to see happening to visitors not running around in the streets attacking people. Lets learn from this farmer and his wife, it costs nithing to respect a stranger and show them hospitality. I am coming to visist this farmer before the end of the year just to feel this genuine warmth from them.

  14. And now you know what makes South Africa work better than the rest.

And well done protecting from lightning. We had several people killed from it outside my home in Joburg.
