Thanks for being honest, not just praising everything. I think it is expectations management too: I loved my trip, even though it was in the middle of the Taiwanese inhuman summer heat. But I was so much looking forward to my round-trip on a scooter and learn more about history, culture, and nature of the country before I went, and it didn't disappoint. However, I can see that it is not like the big tourism hot-spots like Bangkok or Japan.
Mate, thanks for sharing this video. Always a special experience with Mrs. P in the mix. I feel you about the weather, my wife and I went to Tokyo in October in 2024 and thought we could go to the tower to catch the views of the city on our last day and the weather was crap. Din Tai Fung in the states is The dumpling chain that is OG.

Great adventure mate, funny I have never been. Malls are Hugh in Asia, they mostly dead ghost cities in the USA. You know I grew up in Los Angeles, I think it was the 89 quake. I was living in a highrise on sunset blvd. Woke up to a two inch wide crack going down my bedroom wall. I could see light. 555 That teas shop looked epic. Aka Thailand Thomas
Thanx for that Paddy and Ms P. Its always great to see different parts of the planet, and Taipei does look a bit beige. As you say, out in the country and mountains it would open up that experience.
Reminds me of the time I spent a week camping at Wasdale Head in the Lake District in England. Climbed all the surrounding mountains, Scafell, Scafell Pike, Great Gable etcetera and didn't have a view from a single one of them because of the mist which kicked in at about 1500 feet. I loved Taiwan because of its spectacular scenery (Taroko Gorge and so on) and the friendliness of the inhabitants.
Nice video Paddy. Welcome to Taiwan, my home for half of my life. That "haze" in Taipei you speak of at the beginning is air pollution, one of our problems here. It's not "weather" ! It's not always that bad of course. I live down South in an indigenous area in Pingtung County with my Paiwan wife. I hope you make it down here! The mountains are, in my opinion the best places to be in Taiwan . Also the relatively unpopulated East coast is really beautiful, specially between Hualien and Manzhou in the deep South. Taroko Gorge near Hualien is amazing. The East coast doesn't suffer the air pollution that the West often does. Clear blue skies most of the time, except when it rains!. October/November are the best months weather wise here in my opinion. Wishing you two a great stay here!….Later …Well I finished the video and heard that you're not actually here now..That you filmed this last year in April! I hope you two come again in October/November and visit the much better parts of Taiwan ! Juifen is a tourist trap…
Taiwan is a place you need to visit when you've been to all the other Asian countries. Good food, very lovely people, relax atmosphere good to go there for a week and cross it of your list. I do think being out of the city is better especially Yehliu Geopark (rock formation) should be on your list also
If you need something for your new home, go to Guangzhou! Good food and plenty of shopping from household, fashion, everything under the sun! Oh, it's a friction of the price you paid in Taipei
