Takatori | Taj Mahal?! Tour of Tsubosakadera (Minami Hokkeji Temple) in Nara
When people think of Nara, they usually think of Todaiji Temple or Nara Park, but did you know there are other cool places such as Tsubosakadera (Minami Hokkeji Temple)? This temple has a strong connection to India. For example, within the temple grounds there is a sanctuary that is modeled after India’s Ajanta Caves. In addition, it was also designed to look like the Taj Mahal! Many of the white marbled structures were gifts sent from India to show their gratitude and appreciation of the temple’s involvement in supporting leprosy patients back in the 1960s.
*I originally planned to come here when the cherry blossoms were blooming, but missed the cut off point by a week lol… I’ll be back!! Maybe fall would look nice too??
