Enjoying Kyoto Historic Streets | Gion Geisha District | Zen Temple, Cafes & Long-Established Shops

I traveled from Tokyo to Kyoto for a 2-day, 1-night trip with my friend. We stayed at a traditional machiya hotel and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful garden of Kennin-ji Temple. We also visited Kyoto-born cafes, bakeries, and long-established shops. We strolled through Gion Shirakawa and Nishiki Market, fully enjoying Kyoto’s historic streets, food, and culture on a relaxing adult-style trip.

  2. Thank you very much Mei-san for showing us a different side of Kyoto. Not temples, not where everybody goes, but something a bit different. I have been there in my 2 first trips to Japan (for 9 nights in total) and loved it, but now I find it much too touristy, and more importantly, there are so many other places in Japan I wish to visit. So I really enjoy watching your video.

About travelbooks: last year I was in Athens with my mother, and I got a wonderful travelbook, bound in leather and with so many beautiful details. I am somebody who hates shopping, but the second I saw that, I knew that I wanted it. And my mother presented it to me. I think memories like that are very precious and will be always to a person, a place and a time.

P.S. The obanzai you had look so delicious. I have grown to love tofu during my 5 trips to Japan, and I appreciate that there is not only "one tofu", but so many possibilities. On this trip, our 2 highlights was the almond tofu for dessert in Toba, Mie-ken, and the freshly made tofu cooked in onsen water in Bessho Onsen, Nagano-ken.
