Reclining statue ruined. Golden principle – Archeological objects never restore beyond its original appearance. If you don't know how it looked originally, then just leave it as it is.

Congratulations, newlyweds. You guys are such an adorable couple. I'm really enjoying this trip you've taken us on. The giant buddha, the hungry elephants, it's awesome.
We visited Ayutthaya a few years ago,and stayed in Sala Ayutthaya Boutique Hotel also. A surprisingly similar itinerary, almost identical including the private boat tour, stopping to see the elephants in the water. We then stayed at their sister hotel over in Bangkok (Sala Rattanakosin) another gem of a hotel with river view rooms overlooking Wat Arun on the Chao Phraya river. Deffinately check it out if you haven't already, their rooftop bar and the Wat arun river view dining experience is top notch!!

Whether the newly restored reclining Buddha statue is better than before depends on the perspective. If you're an antique collector, you wouldn't choose a restored artifact because the value and charm of an antique lies in its age, natural wear and tear, and the scent of time. Historical sites and artifacts should be restored to their original condition as much as possible, without further damage, not to make them look new, which diminishes their inherent value. I think the restorers have misinterpreted this greatly.๐ข

One of the most overrated places in Thailand for me. Apart from the reclining Buddha there is nothing you can't find anywhere else in Thailand.
Those river prawns …..I find the taste metallic/ iodine. Not for me!

It's a pity that this video was released a month later than my visit, but I skipped Ayutthaya because accommodation was booked solid, and it will have to wait for my next visit. You have given me some ideas and insights that will be helpful. Paddy, now that you have a Thai wife, ask her to teach you how to pronounce Ayutthaya. ๐

Beautiful city. A must see in Thailand. A great way to move around in the park and temple area is to rent a bike!
Ah Paddy, I am so disappointed that you would promote riding elephants. You can clearly see a bull hook in their hands, a device used to inflict pain and fear on the elephants. You could have avoided showing that or used the opportunity to shine a light on this abuse that these poor elephants go through. You were one of my favourite influencers ๐
in my opinion, the renovation of the statue is aweful ๐
The rustic charme of those ruins and that statue as well tells (told) a visual story, now the statue looks artificial/polished which isn't a good thing for archaeological sites.
Great video you guys. We are off to Ayutthaya next year and was going to wing it too but will now be using Ploy lol. And that restored Buddah was awful ๐ณ. Looked like one of those bad models in a waxwork museum ๐คฃ๐คฃ. They should have left alone

Paddy, I really enjoy your content, but promoting elephant entertainment is something I canโt get behind, and this isnโt the first time youโve featured this kind of experience. These animals are taken from the wild and subjected to a brutal training process to make them compliant for tourists. If you want to include elephants in your content, please consider visiting a reputable sanctuary or one of Thailandโs national parks where you can observe them living as they should, free. Your platform has real influence, and Iโd love to see you use it to promote ethical wildlife experiences instead.
