今回は兵庫県赤穂市にあります赤穂城跡（あこうじょうしろあと）とその周辺の紹介です。

概要
千種川河口の三角洲上に立地する典型的な平城で、当時は二之丸の南半と三之丸の西側が海に面する海城であった。
その縄張は甲州流軍学によってなされたといわれ、本丸と二之丸は輪郭式に、二之丸と三之丸は梯郭式に配置し、その城壁は横矢を多用したため、複雑に折れ曲がっているのが特徴である。
ストーリーの位置づけ
浅野長直が１６６１（寛文元）年に築城した城。赤穂藩は、この城の東西に広がる広大な海浜を入浜塩田に開拓し、製塩による莫大な利益をもとに城
と城下町を築いた。

浅野長直の指示によって慶安元(1648)年から13年の歳月をかけて
築かれた赤穂城は、近世城郭史上非常に珍しい変形輪郭式の海岸平城です。
藩の家臣で軍学師範の近藤正純が設計し、そのうち二之丸門虎口の縄張は、当時の著名な軍学者であった山鹿素行の手が加えられたと伝えられています。
城地は、東に千種川、南は瀬戸内海に面し、清水門の南にある船入は船が出入りできるようになっていました。
昭和46年に国史指定を受け、平成14年には本丸庭園と二之丸庭園が
国の名勝に指定され、平成18年には『日本100名城』に選ばれました。
本丸内には刃傷事件後に大石内蔵助らが大評定に集まった御殿の間取りが復元されており、天守台からは本丸内はもとより広々とした赤穂の風景が眺められます。

This is a typical flatland castle located on a delta at the mouth of the Chikusa River. At the time, the southern half of the second bailey and the western side of the third bailey faced the sea, making it a coastal castle.
It is said that the castle’s layout was designed according to the Koshu school of military strategy. The main keep and second bailey are arranged in a concentric pattern, while the second and third baileys are arranged in a concentric pattern. The castle walls are characterized by their complex, winding design, due to the extensive use of flanking fire.
Story positioning
This castle was built by Asano Naganao in 1661 (Kanbun 1). The Ako Domain developed the vast coastline stretching east and west of the castle into salt fields, and based on the enormous profits from salt production, they built the castle.

Built over 13 years starting in 1648 under the direction of Asano Naganao, Akō Castle is a very rare example of a modified, concentric-shaped coastal flatland castle in the history of early modern castles.
It was designed by Kondo Masazumi, a retainer of the domain and a military science instructor, and it is said that the layout of the Ninomaru Gate entrance was modified by Yamaga Sokō, a renowned military scholar of the time.
The castle grounds faced the Chikusa River to the east and the Seto Inland Sea to the south, and the boat landing south of the Shimizu Gate allowed boats to come and go.
It was designated a National Historic Site in 1971, and in 2002, the Honmaru Garden and Ninomaru Garden were designated as National Places of Scenic Beauty. In 2006, it was selected as one of “Japan’s Top 100 Castles.”
Within the main keep, the layout of the palace where Oishi Kuranosuke and others gathered for a grand council after the sword incident has been restored, and from the keep’s base, you can enjoy not only the main keep but also a panoramic view of Akō.
