⁴ᴷ Kagoshima: Sendai Station (鹿児島県: 川内駅) – Japan Walking Tour (March, 2026)

I’ve decided to head west in search of warmer weather and travel all the way around Kyushu. After driving to Osaka and taking the ferry to Shin-Moji, I’m continuing my journey through the island.

Moving from the tip of the Satsuma Peninsula back toward Kumamoto, I arrived at Sendai Station in Satsuma Sendai City, Kagoshima. The station, shared by JR Kyushu and the Hisatsu Orange Railway, serves as a Shinkansen stop, featuring a grand and impeccably clean building and plaza.

As I began my walk, I found shopping streets with covered sidewalks along Route 3, where the steady stream of traffic highlights the city’s role as a regional transport hub. A short walk from the station reveals a grand arcade district with a charming, nostalgic atmosphere. While several restaurants were scattered throughout the area, the streets felt calm and quiet as the evening set in. It was a contemplative walk after sunset, capturing the contrast between the modern transit hub and the still, historical heart of the city.
