Just got back from niseko, even with late season skiing still had good snow up until the last few days. We got great 2 pow days even in late March.
It’s not thin cover till you feel like you’d be better on a bike
I just want to counter one thing you said. Large groups in the backcountry are NOT a good idea. You expose more people to more risk. Ideally you should be going in groups of 2-4 people with equal skill levels.
@nisekopowdersecrets8447 had an awesome video on the topography and the strategy on going down each of the Niseko gates
I'm so close to becoming a Kutchan local.
I highly recommend shiribetsu and yotei touring if you're in the neighborhood again!
"Let's get a selfie in the shrine". And Americans wonder why no one likes them
3 or more is NOT recommended. Bigger is not better or safer in backcountry.
Party lapping down and waiting under that cornice just gave me such chills. Bad feelings.
To be fair, I haven’t been to Japan, but I can’t imagine going that in those conditions in Colorado or Utah…
That's not Jackson's. And I'm not going to tell you where it is.🤣 You are lucky you didn't end up in the bottom of a huge glide crack. I don't recommend dropping over that cornice. That is why I carry a rope. I have short-roped people out of that and other holes in Niseko. People get stuck in holes and die there pretty much every year.
What a gaper-fest! Can you imagine being a Japanese skier out there enjoying some nice pow turns then all of a sudden this giant group of obnoxious Americans come fumbling their way down yelling "That's baller!" followed by "Oh wait, I think it's this way!" Sorry Japan, we're not all like that!
A 4th white tear has run down my leg😩😩
Holy cow! You got a lot more powder up there than when I did it back in 2020! That was awesome! Yeah, then having to hike that road back out was not fun. That trip for 2027 (especially the second one) is very, VERY, tempting. Would love to go back to Japan.
Near the end if the video (at 12:20) you cover the layered risks involved with skiing in this area, yet your entire video shows you taking on ALL of those risks. THIS IS THE REASON, KNUCKLEHEADS END UP IN THE BACK COUNTRY WHERE THEY SHOULDN'T BE. the number of errors and poor decision making skills your team made in the back country is why people die. your lack of experience in the surrounding areas makes it a resounding NO to join any of your Japan trips. Do everyone a favor and either keep your guests on piste or keep them at home.
Looks really fun
What a gong show – japan is so done. So many low end skier swarming the backcountry and way over their heads. Didn't see one good turn from any skier in this group.
Why is your crew not equipped with Avy gear if you are heading into the back country/side country?
I was laughing my ass off when you said thin cover. That's deeper than anything we got over in the Western U.S.
Thank God I never went skiing in Japan. None of these runs are black diamonds. The snow seems very dense & heavy as well.
Hope you are getting the proper visa and licenses to be guiding trips in Japan. If they find out you aren’t you are gonna be in deep sh*t..
This video is a perfect example of how not to ski in the backcountry
