A wild traditional festival & giant village feast in rural Guangxi
On the second day of the second lunar month, known as “Dragon Awakens Day,”
I traveled to Suntoupo Village in Guangxi, China, to تجربه one of the most intense traditional festivals.
With a single firecracker shot, over 100 people rush into the field—grabbing, blocking, and wrestling for a ring tied with red cloth. It may look like a fight, but this is actually a centuries-old tradition known as “Firecracker Snatching,” often called the “Eastern Rugby.”
Winning the “first firecracker” is believed to bring luck and prosperity for the entire year.
Beyond the action, the village hosts a massive communal feast, where hundreds gather to share traditional Zhuang dishes, celebrating together in a vibrant and authentic rural setting.
This experience reveals not only a thrilling folk event, but also the deeper social dynamics and traditions of rural China.

這一天是農曆二月初二「龍抬頭」，
我來到中國廣西南寧中和鎮孫頭坡，親身體驗一場延續數百年的傳統民俗——搶花炮。
一聲炮響，上百人衝進田野，圍搶、拦截、撕扯，場面極其激烈，甚至讓人誤以為是一場「打架」。但其實，這是一項被譽為「東方橄欖球」的非物質文化遺產活動，象徵著爭奪新一年的好運與福氣。
除了緊張刺激的搶花炮，當地還舉辦了壯族百家宴，上千人圍坐共享12道特色菜，場面壯觀又充滿人情味。
透過這次經歷，我不僅看到了最熱鬧、最原始的鄉村節日，也感受到中國鄉村中真實的人情世故與運作邏輯。
