Thousand-Year-Old Traditions – The Sacred Dances of Okitama, Yamagata

A premium cultural journey into the spiritual heart of rural Yamagata—an experience you can find nowhere else in Japan.
This tour is built around two rare highlights: an intimate Kurojishi (Black Lion) Dance offering reserved for our guests, and a special Shinto priest & miko (shrine maiden) ritual experience at Kumano Taisha Shrine.

You will go beyond “watching.” Through meaningful encounters with local artisans, performers, brewers, and community members, you’ll feel how these living traditions are still carried from generation to generation—alongside the region’s deep connection to water, mountains, and prayer.
Depending on season, the itinerary may also include extraordinary nature experiences such as Mifuchi Gorge, a remote sacred valley accessible only by boat or canoe.

山形・置賜に千年以上受け継がれてきた精神文化を、少人数で深く体感するプレミアムツアーです。日本中でここでしか経験できない特別なプログラムとして、①ツアー参加者のためだけに奉納される黒獅子舞（プレミアム体験）、②縁結びの神として知られる熊野大社での神主・巫女体験を中心に構成しています。

本ツアーの魅力は、儀礼や文化を“見学する”だけではありません。獅子彫り師、地域の獅子連（祭りの担い手）、酒蔵の蔵人夫婦、地域ガイドなど、地域の人との交流を通して、祈りの文化がいまも人から人へ受け継がれていることを実感できます。
季節により、ボート／カヌーでしか辿り着けない秘境三淵渓谷など、山岳信仰と水の物語につながる自然体験も組み込み、土地の成り立ちと暮らし・信仰を一本のストーリーとして味わいます。
