Australia’s Birthplace: Driving in Corowa and Wahgunyah, Murray River border towns

Situated along the Murray River that separates the Australian states of New South Wales and Victoria are the two neighbouring border towns of Corowa and Wahgunyah.

Not only are these two towns pretty and blessed with natural features such as the Murray River, lakes, and walking trails. The towns also hold a very important chapter in Australian history.

Corowa was the town that the first official meetings took place, resulting in the agreement that would ultimately unite the separate colonies into a single nation. It was also the place where the Murray-Darling agreement between the states of New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia was first discussed.

Come along on an informative drive as I take you though both towns, point out their various features and provide you with text based commentary along the way.

  1. Not to be confused with "Cowra, NSW" which is about a 4 hour drive north east of Cowora.
