Vol.123 [SUB/4K]
Good morning! This is E-Ma. This is the 3rd and final episode of our 2 nights and 3 days trip to Kusatsu and Ikaho. We started the morning at a hotel built on a hill in Ikaho. The last day is likely to be cloudy. Breakfast meal. The pork soup was delicious (´ー`). There was a morning coffee service in the lobby (´ー`). I checked out. The hotel had good hot springs, food, and rooms. There are several stink bugs near the window of the room (>_<). It can't be helped since the hotel is located in a hot spring town with lots of nature (^_^;). Other than that, it was a really comfortable hotel (´ー`). This is a parking lot in front of the Ikaho Ishidangai entrance. I wanted to park here, so I had to leave the hotel early. Even so, there were only two spaces left and it was very close (^_^;). Now, let's start walking around Ikaho's stone steps (*'▽'). The first thing that catches your eye is the orange letters "IKAHO". Everyone is taking commemorative photos here (´ー`). Ikaho Onsen has a history of over 400 years. Walk along the stone steps that are its symbol. This stone monument is located a little up the stairs from the square where the monument with the words "IKAHO" is located. This is the starting point of the 365 stone steps. It is said that the 365 stone steps were built with the wish that the hot spring town would prosper 365 days a year. This is the ``Ishidan Tama Konnyaku'' shop located on the 94th step. Gunma Prefecture is Japan's number one producer of konnyaku potatoes. It's also nice to eat local specialties at tourist destinations (´ー`). There are also new shops opening that weren't there when I came before. This is the 166th step. As you go up the stone steps, you will see plates with zodiac signs drawn on them. There used to be 12 hot spring inns called ``Oya'', and each zodiac sign had a meaning like a family crest. It is said that there is now a zodiac sign plate where the inn used to be. Halfway up the stone steps, around the 200th step, is a poem written by Akiko Yosano called ``Ikaho no Machi''. There is a footbath on the 212th step. I should have been trying to take pictures of all the zodiac signs, but... Both of us were distracted by the manju shop that had a long line and ended up skipping "Tora" (;・∀・). There are so many lined up (^_^;). It's almost there. And this is the 365th step of the goal. This shrine is said to bring blessings such as good health, longevity, marriage, fertility, and business prosperity. I'm going to visit you. There are stairs all the way, so if you have weak legs, it might be difficult to get here. I feel like I will be rewarded for my hard work (´ー`). On the way back, I slowly go down while looking at the shops. As it was already past 10 o'clock, shops that had been closed until a moment ago began to open. ``Yamashiroya''. There are beckoning cats and cute Japanese-style miscellaneous goods. A beckoning cat wearing a yukata and a towel on its head. I decided to welcome him to my house (*´ω`*). ``Tanakaya'' is a Yunohana manju shop where people have been lining up since the morning. The famous "Shogetsudo" near Ikaho Shrine was temporarily closed, so it may have been extra crowded. Ikaho's "Yunohana Manju" is said to be the origin of all hot spring manjus in Japan, so if you come to Ikaho, you should try "Yunohana Manju". ``Nostalgia Honpo''. When I entered the store, I saw that it was a retro Showa-era game hall with a lot of depth. I did smart ball and target shooting in Atami. I tried Wanage ( ̄ー ̄). I thought it would be easy, but... It doesn't fit at all (´Д`). I received a marshmallow as a consolation prize. Next, try shuriken! I hope it hits you... It didn't sting either (´Д`). The consolation prize was candy. ``Ikahoguchi Domebansho''. This is the Ikaho checkpoint. You can also enter the building freely. There were materials on display inside. The building across from the checkpoint is... "Kingdom of Hawaii Minister's Villa". A time when Hawaii was an independent country. This building was used as a summer residence for a person who served as a minister to Japan. You can also take a look inside for free. It's also in the back in front of the stone staircase entrance. Spray art of "Prebato" was displayed. You can sit on the bench and take a commemorative photo (´ー`). I returned to the entrance. Ikaho Ishidangai is a very popular tourist spot that is visited by tourists one after another. Then we'll get in the car and leave. The manju shop on Ishidangai was crowded, so I decided to buy some souvenirs there. I'll buy ``Yunohana Manju.'' After buying the steamed buns, I walked a short distance to a nearby park. From 1908 to 1955. A streetcar ran between Shibukawa and Ikaho. This park preserves and exhibits the tram (commonly known as the Chin-Chin Densha) that was active at that time. I couldn't go inside the train that day. It seems to be open from 10:30 to 15:30 on the third Sunday of every month. I think I'm going to go eat lunch now. Ikaho is famous for its ``Mizusawa udon.'' Mizusawa udon is one of the three major udon types in Japan, along with Inaniwa in Akita and Sanuki in Kagawa. The area near Mizusawa-dera Temple on Prefectural Route 15, which is currently running, is called the ``Mizusawa Udon Kaido.'' There are many Mizusawa udon shops lined up here. We will enter one of the popular stores, Osawaya. Even though it was a weekday, the parking lot was already full. I thought it would be a long wait, but I was able to park my car in about 15 minutes. Enter the store, write your name and wait for your turn. The waiting time was about 5 minutes and I was guided (´ー`). Kaede (zaru udon, 2 pieces of maitake tempura) 1,485 yen. Sesame soup zaru udon 979 yen. It's slippery and chewy and delicious (*'▽'). Maitake mushroom tempura is huge (゚Д゚). Other stores are also almost full. That's how delicious Mizusawa udon is (´ー`). The next destination is just a little way back towards the hot spring town. ``Mizusawa Kanzeon''. Mizusawa-ji Temple is a temple with a history of 1300 years. The principal image is the Eleven-faced Thousand-Armed Kanzeon Bodhisattva, which is said to bring blessings for safe childbirth and child-rearing. This ``Junishimamori Honzon'' is said to bring you good luck and the fulfillment of your wishes if you worship the zodiac symbol. I will pray at the main hall. ``Hexagonal double tower''. Rokjizo statues are enshrined on a uniquely shaped pedestal called a hexagonal wheel. It is said that if you turn the pedestal quietly and sincerely three times, your wish will come true. At first I thought I would try it by myself, but the pedestal was so heavy that it wouldn't move, so it took two people to turn it. ``Ryuo Benzaiten''. Let's worship it for good luck with money (´ー`). It is said that in the past, many people were able to survive by eating frogs when they were faced with food shortages. It is enshrined to express gratitude and comfort. It is said that if you sprinkle water on a frog, your wish will come true. I later learned that if you light the ``Yamato no Kane'' in the ``Bell Tower'', your financial luck will increase. We should have added it too (´Д`). Although the bell didn't ring, I feel like I received a lot of power (´ー`). This is the last sightseeing spot on this trip. This is the huge temple of the Rinzai sect, which has its head temple in Taiwan, ``Bukkozan Hosuiji.'' The one sitting at the entrance... who? As soon as you enter the entrance, you can see that it is different from Japanese temples. You have to climb 238 long stone steps to reach the main hall (´Д`). The stone statues of little boys here and there are cute (´ー`). This is about the halfway point. It looks like we still have a long way to go (゚Д゚). It's almost there. We have arrived (*'▽'). This place has become popular in recent years as a tourist spot with a spectacular view. It's cloudy and hazy (>_<). When I passed through the gate, there was a building that looked like a movie set. You can enter the building for free and take photos. This is the ``Eleven-faced Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva'' from the ``Jihihoden''. ``Daiyuhoden''. In front of it was a pure white Buddha statue. There was a cafe at the exit. It's a Taiwanese cafe and they have food, but they don't use any meat or fish. Tapioca milk tea 600 yen, Roselle soda 500 yen. Even though I was supposed to be at a hot spring resort in Japan, I was able to experience an exotic atmosphere (´ー`). I'd like to come when it's sunny next time (´Д`). You can also see beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. This concludes our trip to Gunma Prefecture's two major hot springs, Kusatsu and Ikaho. At first, I was planning to make it a relaxing trip that would mainly focus on hot springs, but... As expected, this trip turned out to be a greedy trip full of sightseeing (^▽^;). Let's look forward to relaxing in a hot spring when we're a little older. Looks like I'll be climbing up the stairs for a while (^_^;). We look forward to working with you in the future!
