キングコング・スタジオツアー ユニバーサル・スタジオ・ハリウッド ユニバーサル・シティ (2001)

[Music] here on our Fame studio tour the past present and future of Hollywood come to life right before your eyes no matter what’s currently in production you’re always bound to run into a big star on the Universal Studios lot and we mean [Music] big

Originally a part of the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood, King Kong Encounter, also known as Kongfrontation, was an attraction inspired by the 1976 film adaptation of King Kong. This attraction also influenced the creation of Kongfrontation at Universal Studios Florida. Set among the New York Street backlot, the attraction was a casualty of the 2008 Universal fire, leading to its replacement by King Kong: 360 3-D, launched on July 1, 2010.

In this attraction, visitors entered a soundstage resembling New York City, stopping in front of an apartment building facade. Here, they viewed a news broadcast on TV monitors featuring ABC News anchor Sander Vanocur, reporting King Kong’s rampage through the city, including scenes of him hurling elevated trains from their tracks. Despite efforts by the NYPD, Kong was unstoppable and headed towards the Brooklyn Bridge.

The drama intensified as a news helicopter with reporter Kelly King (Sheree J. Wilson) on board was attacked by Kong, leading to a simulated crash near the tram. The experience escalated as the tram appeared to drive onto the Brooklyn Bridge, bringing guests face-to-face with a giant animatronic Kong. NYPD helicopters engaged Kong, who responded by violently shaking the bridge and trying to grasp the tram, with guests narrowly escaping.

The attraction’s highlight was the 7-ton, 30-foot-tall Kong animatronic, the most complex of its time, designed by Disney Imagineer Bob Gurr. Kong’s realism was enhanced by features like banana-scented breath. This groundbreaking attraction set the stage for today’s advanced themed experiences and inspired the Kongfrontation attraction in Universal Studios Florida.

The King Kong attraction, a $7-million project featuring a 30-foot computer-controlled animatronics, opened in a specially constructed studio on June 14, 1986. However, it was utterly destroyed in a fire on June 1, 2008. Initially, Universal Studios announced that the attraction would not be rebuilt but replaced. However, fan outcry led to the decision to reincarnate Kong in a 3D film experience on the tour.
