Hanamaki Minami Onsenkyo, Hanamaki City, Iwate PrefectureThis time, we will introduce Fujisan Ryokan, a hot spring in Hanamaki Minami Onsenkyo, Iwate Prefecture. Namada Onsen is one of the 12 hot springs in Hanamaki, which is made up of 12 hot spring areas , and is located on the upstream side of the Toyosawa River, along with Shinzu Onsen, at the edge of Hanamaki Minami Onsen Gorge. Legend has it that the hot springs were opened about 600 years ago , when the ancestors of Fujisan Ryokan saw white monkeys healing their limbs with the hot water gushing out from the roots of Katsura trees . Fujisan Ryokan is a legendary hot spring inn that has been a hot spring inn since the opening of Namida Onsen, where Kenji Miyazawa and Torahiko Tamiya once stayed, and in recent years it has also been used as a filming location for movies . In this video, we will give a full review of the charm of Fujisan Ryokan, including the history and overview of Fujisan Ryokan, the Japanese-style rooms that were used as locations for all bath movies, and the Japanese-Western room that was renovated in 2024 and the breakfast and dinner meals. Fujisan Ryokan History and Overview Fujisan Ryokan is an inn along the upper reaches of the Toyosawa River, which flows in the southern part of Iwate Prefecture, halfway up the Ou Mountains . Fujisan Ryokan was founded in 1841 during the Edo period. The inn’s name, “Fujisan,” is said to have been derived from two letters from its ancestor, Mr. Fujii Sanemon. The current Fujisan Ryokan is a hot spring inn with a total of 32 rooms, consisting of a three-story zelkova main building built in 1942, and a steel annex that was added to the hot spring area in 1962 . In 2015, we opened the villa “Kokoro no Toki Jusangatsu” in the luxury inn category. I have made a separate video about December, so please take a look. Fujisan Ryokan was the setting for Torahiko Tamiya’s novel “Shirogane Shinju” and also appeared in the fairy tale “Nametokoyama no Kuma” by Kenji Miyazawa, a distant relative. It is used as “Azumaya Ryokan” in the movie “Umimachi Diary”. Approximately 20 minutes by car from Hanamaki Minami IC on the Tohoku Expressway. Free shuttle buses and route buses from JR Shin-Hanamaki/Hanamaki Station operate, making it easy to access. Enter the building through the entrance, which has a retro atmosphere that will make you feel like you have traveled back in time to the Showa era . The red carpet has a nice retro atmosphere♪ Amenity bar Here, yukata of various sizes and amenities (toothbrushes, razors, purses, shower caps, hairbrushes) were available. Fujisan Ryokan is a member inn of JR East’s “Ji-Onsen THE ONSEN”. We would like to introduce you to the facilities within the facility. Introduction to the facility The relaxation area can also be used by day-trippers. Photos related to Kenji Miyazawa are on display. There are many photos of the old Fujisan Ryokan ♪ Introducing the inside of the inn The shop has a wide selection of Nanbu ironware, sweets, and more. Facility Introduction Lobby Lounge Check-in will be done while sitting on this sofa. I will introduce the bath time and photos from the Umimachi Diary location later. You can relax while looking at the river view♪ Introduction to the facility Bar Lounge Fuji From 15:00 to 18:00 is free flow time (all you can drink: 1,650 yen), and after that it becomes a regular bar. I’ll show you what’s behind the door later^^ Introduction to the facility Hot spring treatment clubThis area is a room in the annex. If you go straight from the restaurant “Light”, you will find the large public bath, Hakuzaru no Yu, and Katsura no Yu, and if you turn right at Jusanguki, you will find the Toji Club. As soon as I turned the corner, there was a rest area. There is a shrine ^^ There is a charge for the massage chair. There was an entrance on the side of the hot spring treatment section of Hakuzaru no Yu. The hallway continues all the way to the back^^ There was a guest room kitchen on the second floor of the hot spring treatment area . There are dishes, washing facilities, etc. I returned to the entrance of the hot spring treatment club. Katsura no Yu Shirozaru no Yu Entrance opposite to the hot spring treatment section. I’ll show you what’s inside later. If you go to the back, you will find the entrance to Jusangatsu. Only guests staying in December can enter here. We were given an explanation of the check-in room, bathroom, and meal times and locations. This plan is a standard plan with lounge access.The accommodation costs will be introduced at the end. Room introduction First, I will explain the guest rooms. An elevator with a lovely deer dancing pattern ♪ *Rooms in the main building have shared toilets and washbasins *Some rooms in the annex have toilets and washbasins. We will introduce these rooms later. *Rooms in the hot spring treatment area have shared toilets and washbasins. We have a wide variety of plans . As you would expect from a hot spring inn, there are plans for breakfast only and overnight stays. It is a shared washroom. We also have cosmetics for men and women. This is a shared toilet (Western style). Coupled with the snowy scenery, the view from the window is spectacular 👍 The mountain stream can be seen from the windows on two sides.Japanese-style room 8 tatami mats + 6 tatami corner room *No toilet or washroom.This room has a wonderful Japanese atmosphere.This room has the same floor plan as the room used for filming Umimachi Diary (the room actually used was on the second floor) This is the part you can see from the entrance.In the rooms in the main building, the toilet and washroom are shared. It’s a closet. There were towels and coats. The face towel had a name on it. The tea sweets are miso walnut manju . There’s nothing in the fridge. The 6 tatami Japanese-style room had a futon laid out from the beginning. It is also fully equipped with air conditioning. The 2 tatami mat space is a space for putting on makeup, etc.WiFi is available in the room. The communication speed is also fast 👍 You can connect to your mobile phone signal without any problems. Room introduction Annex Japanese-Western room 8 tatami mats Annex 3rd floor Room 81 8 tatami Japanese-Western room (2024 renewal guest room) The entrance has been updated^^ This room has a washbasin and toilet. The toilet is spacious and has a washlet. Japanese-Western style room with a view of the mountain stream (8 tatami mats) The atmosphere is completely different from the Japanese-style room on the 3rd floor of the annex ^^ It has a combination of tatami mats and a bed. The view from the room is equally spectacular ♪ This area also has a Western-style atmosphere ♪ The stove is large and powerful 👍 The bed was single size. There is no closet, but there are hangers on the wall. It’s nice to be able to choose a room according to your preference 👍 Bath introduction Except for Katsura no Yu, men and women alternate . Shirazaru no Yu is basically a mixed bath (there is a time for women only). It is one of the 5 hot springs . All baths are 100% free flowing from the source. Gin-no-Yu The Gin-no-Yu dressing space is reserved for private use from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM (3,300 yen/50 minutes) .Amenities were provided in the washroom. It’s spacious enough for a private Gin no Yu bath. The brown stone has a luxurious feel^^ The hot water is a simple hot spring that is colorless, transparent, and odorless. It is 100% free flowing from the source. You can see the Toyosawa River from the window, but you can also open it to create a semi-open-air view. The shampoo was POLA. Shiraito-no-Yu Shiraito-no-Yu The undressing space, Shiraito-no-Yu, is open for men and women at different times. It was renovated in 2024, so it is very new. The washroom is spacious and new ♪ Men’s and women’s amenities are the same. There was a cold water server. Shiraito-no-Yu It is very new as it will be renewed in 2024 👍 The origin of the name “Shiraito-no-Yu” is… Shiraito Falls can be seen from the window. The windows can be opened depending on the season. It is a stone bathtub of sufficient size. What you can see in the back is a water bath! And it’s deep! (1.25m) There is a cold bath… yes, there is a sauna ^^ It is spacious and has become a full-fledged dry sauna. Nametokoyama bear panel matagi ? ? This is an image of Kenji Miyazawa’s Self – Lowry stove , which has a sweating effect The indoor bath has a unique black and white pattern.The stone bath is spacious enough.If it’s not cloudy, you can see the view.There are handrails and steps, making it barrier-free. Open-air bath It’s a bath with a wonderful view.The snowy scenery is also amazing♪ There is a large open-air bath, but actually… there is another small rock bath under the stairs.This is really close to the river! This is what the view looks like when you actually soak in the bath 👍It ‘s a bath with a wild atmosphere that looks like it was made of rocks ^^ It ‘s a nice open-air bath with a nice open feeling and a great view.It’s a wonderful open-air bath. The women’s bath also had a washroom just after entering.The changing area is almost the same as the men’s bath.The size and pattern of the indoor bath are the same as the men ‘s bath. Like the men’s open-air bath, it is larger than the men’s bath.It is 100% free-flowing from the source♪It overflows vigorously ^^ Finally, the main bath, which is Fujisan Ryokan’s specialty, is exciting (^^♪ I am overwhelmed by the large space that looks like it is inside a huge cube! I have never seen a bath like this before^^ The main bath is a large oval bath. Please be careful if you are disabled as you will have to go down about 2 floors of stairs.The changing area is mostly open^^ It is supposed to be a mixed bathing area, but there is no changing area for women. I’m curious as to what to do. There is also a changing area on the opposite side. This is the entrance from the hot springs area . The two entrances are unique ! You can feel the history of Shirozaru no Yu. The entire bath is made of stone, and there are large stones rolling around inside. The average depth is about 1.25 meters. I think the deepest part is about 1.5m. Ladies, can you take a mixed bath in this bath? (Don’t worry, there is a women-only time.) Apparently the source water is gushing out directly below the bath. There’s quite a bit of overflow. The water is very clear and transparent. It’s a hot spring that feels a little slippery. There is no washing area. There is another small bathtub, but the water was lukewarm. The source may be different. When you come to Fujisan Ryokan, you should definitely try the bath at least once ♪ Lounge Fuji After taking a bath, I came to the bar lounge “Fuji”. There is a charge (15:00-18:00 1,650 yen), but you can enjoy unlimited drinks including alcohol. Draft beer, red and white wine, coffee , shochu, and Japanese sake soft drinks are available for free to guests staying in December. It’s nice to have draft beer after bathing♪ Next, I’ll have some white wine. It ‘s time for dinner . Dinner is served in a private room on the second floor. This room was probably used as a guest room. It’s a nice, historic room. You can see the roof of the entrance from the window. This is the drink menu. There is a wide selection of drinks, from draft beer to sake, shochu, and wine. I had already been drinking a lot in the lounge, so I decided to toast with beer and sour♪ All the food was set from the beginning. It’s not shrimp sashimi, so you can’t “suck” it ^^ [Appetizer] Raw scallops, green seaweed, yuzu pepper [Vinegar dishes] Scallops, squid, seaweed, broccoli, chrysanthemum miso vinegar [Hot food] Steamed Chinese cabbage with lily bulbs Beneath the steamed shrimp is yuba, and underneath that is the Chinese cabbage, making it a satisfying meal ^^ [Appetizer] Cod milt tofu Crab stick Wasabi Fluffy tofu that is easy to eat even if you don’t like milt [Product] Seasonal hot pot of Hanamaki Shirokane pork is ready ♪ [Product] Seasonal hot pot of Hanamaki Shirokane pork The big, thick meat is rolling around ^^ [Sashimi] Two servings of yellowtail and yellowtail are basically the same ^^ Grilled conger conger soup [Mizu sweets] Night view of the tiramisu and fruit feast At night, the lights in front of the entrance were turned off. It’s a view that can be enjoyed throughout the year ♪ It’s time for breakfast It’s time for breakfast. Just like dinner, we had breakfast in a private room. It looks like a two-tiered bento box ^^ The fried egg is piping hot on the stove 👍 I took a bath in Shirozaru no Yu during the ladies-only time ^^ It looks like a special bowl for the miso soup bento box with Funori ^^ The fried egg is cooked a little too much? 😅 It’s a menu that makes you want to have a second helping of rice ^^ Radish? Is this how you eat Wasabi Dressing ? ^^ I added mustard.For some reason, there were two mustards in one natto^^ There was a small fruit on top of the yogurt. I had a good meal in the morning. Check out. This time’s plan was a basic plan with 1 night and 2 meals, and the lodging fee with lounge access was 19,200 yen per adult (3 people staying). How did you like Fujisan Ryokan? It was a wonderful stay with a relaxing and relaxing room with a nice retro atmosphere and unique baths including Shirozaru no Yu.
