【千葉県富津市と館山市】燈籠坂大師トンネル/岩谷観音堂/東京湾観音/館山城
Today is March 1, 2025. The time is 10:30 Hello. I will have lunch before my trip. We found a diner in an old building, so I’m going to try this place. I had ramen and fried food and it was very good! My dog, Mr. Bearded Dog He’s on a roll today. go through a tunnel Torozaka Daishi Kiridoshi Tunnel Overview
The Torozakadaishi Kiridoshi Tunnel is a fascinating hand-cut tunnel located in Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture. This unique tunnel was carved by local people during the Meiji and Taisho eras (about 100 years ago) and later modified to its current form in the early Showa period. The tunnel serves as a pathway to Torozakadaishi Temple, dedicated to Kobo Daishi (Kukai). Features
Approximately 100 meters in length and 10 meters in height Distinctive geological layers visible on both tunnel walls A cool breeze passes through during summer months Considered a “power spot” by locals – a place with mystical energy After exploring the tunnel, you can climb the stone steps to visit Torozakadaishi Temple, which offers beautiful views of Tokyo Bay. Now let’s head to our next destination. Iwaya Kannon-do Temple in Chiba Prefecture Located in Chiba Prefecture’s Futtsu City, Iwaya Kannon-do Temple is a fascinating historical site featuring ancient cave tombs and Buddhist carvings. Historical Overview The site features cave chambers called “yagura” that date from the Kamakura period (1185-1333), utilizing what were originally horizontal burial chambers from the Kofun period (3rd-7th century). There were many cave-like rock holes. Cave Chambers and Buddhist Carvings
What makes Iwaya Kannon-do truly special is its system of 14 cave chambers Numerous relief carvings of Buddhist figures including Nio guardian statues at the entrances A corridor-style second chamber that surrounds the first in a U-shape My dog seems to be enjoying it. Afraid of steep stairs. Local tradition holds that circumambulating all the chambers provides the same spiritual benefits as completing a pilgrimage to all sacred sites across Japan. The entire site can be explored at a leisurely pace in about 15 minutes. It was very mysterious. There was no one there, just us. Things to Note When Visiting
The cave walls are made of fragile sandstone that has weathered over time, so please be careful not to touch the carvings or walls inside the chambers. The temple stands as an important example of ancient Japanese Buddhist practice and artistry. There were chairs and tables. Its cave chambers and ancient carvings provide a mysterious and spiritually significant experience that connects modern visitors with centuries of Buddhist tradition in the Boso Peninsula region. Kawazu cherry blossoms were in bloom and beautiful. Let’s go to our next destination. Tokyo-Wan Kannon: A Magnificent Peace Monument on Tokyo Bay Tokyo-Wan Kannon (Tokyo Bay Kannon) stands as an impressive 56-meter tall statue of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy overlooking Tokyo Bay from the hills of Futtsu, Chiba Prefecture. This remarkable monument combines spiritual significance with breathtaking panoramic views, making it a unique yet often overlooked destination for visitors to the Tokyo area. Built in 1961 as a symbol of world peace following World War II, this majestic white statue offers visitors both cultural enrichment and natural beauty. History and Purpose Tokyo-Wan Kannon was constructed in 1961 by Masae Usami as a dedication to world peace in the aftermath of World War II. The statue has a deeply personal origin story – Usami lost his home during an air raid in the Pacific War and, after witnessing the suffering of many war victims, decided to build something to comfort those affected by the war. What makes this Kannon statue particularly unique is that it isn’t affiliated with any specific religion or sect – it was built purely to relieve people’s suffering. One of the most remarkable features of Tokyo-Wan Kannon is that visitors can enter and climb inside the statue. The project began in 1958 and utilized the most advanced construction technology of the time, costing a total of 120 million yen. Dogs can be carried or put in a bag to visit the museum. We left my bag behind, so my dog takes turns carrying it. At 10 kg he’s very heavy, but we’ll do our best. The interior contains a circular staircase with 324 steps that lead all the way to the observation deck located in the head of the statue. The climb is divided across 20 floors, with each floor enshrining different deities. The primary reward for climbing the 324 steps is the magnificent panoramic view from the observation deck at the top of the statue. They’re this high up. There are viewing spots at different levels of the statue – at the hands, shoulders, and head – each offering different perspectives of the surrounding landscape. Climb this ladder to the top. There is no one here. It’s just us. We came to a nearby beach. My dog loves the ocean. My dog running energetically I came to Tateyama Castle. Tateyama Castle was originally constructed in 1580 by Satomi Yoshiyori, a powerful feudal lord who controlled most of the Boso Peninsula during Japan’s turbulent Sengoku (Warring States) period. The domain was reinstated in 1781, with Lord Inaba Masaaki rebuilding some fortifications, though without constructing a main tower. February to April: Around 500 cherry trees flower, including Kawazu, Kanhi, Yoshino, and double-blossomed Yaezakura varieties Nice view. Great place to walk your dog. Thank you for watching! See you again in the next video!
