Gstaad: la ciudad de los ricos… ¿y de las vacas? 😱🇨🇭
Hello travelers, and welcome to a new video. Today we’re in the most luxurious village in Switzerland, located in the canton of Bern. It’s said to be much more luxurious than St. Moritz. Celebrities such as princes, singers, actors, and fashion designers have come here. Valentino is so fond of this place that he’s stayed here because this city is like luxury, discreet. Besides getting to know this beautiful village, join us to see a very magical and unique tradition that takes place in Switzerland, where cows are the stars, they’re the queens, and they parade, and we ‘re here to see them. Welcome to this village, let’s go. Once upon a time, we had to get up very early to be at the terminal on time , where we had to check our physical day passes at those checkout counters . We had gotten them in a promotion for 55 francs each ticket. That box is empty, but once you put it in the box, the date is automatically entered, the date your pass will be valid for. But if you have this pass, whether electronic or the Swiss Travel Pass, you don’t need to go to any checkout. Just having it on your phone is more than enough. Getting to Gstaad can take some time, but the journey is already part of the adventure. From Zurich or Basel, it takes approximately three and a half to four hours, with several changes like the ones you see on the screen. From Montreux , the most magical way is to hop on the Golden Pass Line, a panoramic train that takes you to Gstaad in an hour and a half. If you come by car, the times can be similar, but a little shorter. [Music] I won’t deny that since it was a very important event, quite a few people attended, so it was a bit complicated to take the road to get to the city, which just involves crossing a mini underground bridge. [Music] [Music] These bells are not just any ornament. They are handcrafted in Switzerland. They weigh up to 40 kg and can cost more than 10,000 francs. Each one wears an embroidered leather belt that shows the community’s pride. In the past, they were used to ward off spirits and protect livestock, but today they are a symbol of tradition and strength in the Alps. [Music] [Music] If you come to Gstaad and it’s not a holiday season, this can be a great option for finding something for breakfast or lunch. But we came to see this tradition, and of course we were going to want to buy something from a local family. [Music] Frank : Look, here’s a … Let’s try this delicious treat. That’s delicious. They’re not like the cheesecakes in Mexico. These are savory. It’s very good, I really loved it. 10 out of 10. Our first snack of the biggest festival here in Switzerland. One of the most important. Alpabzug [Music] [Music] Wow. Every summer, certain families come down from the mountains, from their temporary homes, with their livestock to be able to hold this beautiful Alpine Cow Parade. And this doesn’t just happen in this city; there are quite a few cities around Switzerland, and this event takes place on different dates . So, in each one, you’re going to find different things, different foods, because of course, it’s the same as in Mexico or Latin America, right? All the cities in the same country are going to sell the same type of food, but it can be similar, like the ones you’re going to see in this video, since it can also be compared a bit with other parades we’ve been seeing around here. And each family brings a different type of livestock; not just cows, but also goats, kids, different types of livestock, since this tradition has only been going on here for 10 years. [Music] [Music] [Music] Valentino. Valentino. [Applause] The official language of this place is German. We’re in a German-speaking canton. We’re in Bern, but among the locals, they already know that they like to speak Swiss German. English is also spoken a lot. In fact, at this big celebration, we happened to be speaking German, and then They do the translation into English, which I’ve never had to do before at any event, let alone a traditional one. The population here in the municipality is 7,000, but from here in the village, you could say it’s only 3,000 . So it’s a very small town, but that doesn’t take away from its uniqueness, which is quite luxurious, but a quieter luxury. Many people would say that St. Moritz is also or competes with this city, but St. Moritz is known a little more for its parties, and here it’s more for the spas, for the skiing. It’s more of a different kind of tourism than luxury, the same, but a little different than St. Moritz. Here on the channel , they also have a video of the other city, so now we’re going to have videos of the two most luxurious cities in Switzerland. But join me to see what else we can see at this great celebration. Let’s see what they sell. They have pork sausage with cheese from Alpinos. It costs nine francs. They also have special wine from the region. [Music] Also, kafelutz coffee, but here it’s called cafe. We’ve tried it in other videos. I just wanted to show you that depending on the region, even if it’s German-speaking, the names change. And this is usually where they sell it. You can buy the drinks or the sausage, and usually you go to the other place where they give it to you, or sometimes they give you what you’re buying right there. There’s like a tent there and there’s music, but today we didn’t need it because it’s quite sunny. Even though it’s about 13 degrees, I think 14, the temperature is slowly rising. Touristy. Around the entire event, there were some children who came up to sell you commemorative badges that are normally used at this type of festival, which caught our attention, since in last year’s parade, which these images show, the ones selling them were some grandparents. And all of this helps us continue this tradition, to contribute a little more to the infrastructure, bathrooms, etc. If you want to see the infrastructure and the differences, you can compare them with last year’s video. Let’s try the sausage with cheese. It’s very hot. It’s juicy, it’s piping hot, and the cheese is delicious. It’s not that strong. It’s very good. Here we have a very traditional drink from the Swiss Alps, which is Kaffe Lutz, or all the names of this drink will come here. It’s very traditional to keep you warm. It has a kick of chava alcohol, and it’s good. When I say a kick, I’m literally half a bottle, but we’ll see how strong this one is. It’s very hot. It’s strong, but not as strong as the ones we’ve tried at other Swiss festivals. This is passable. They didn’t put that much alcohol in it, but another one is pretty strong, so cheers for this cold heat Slash is having, because since we arrived it’s been around 10 to 14 degrees, but right now the sun is very pleasant. Let’s see what else we can enjoy at this beautiful party. It’s more noticeable that we’re in a fancy place, because everywhere else they give it to you in a paper cup and that’s it. And here they give it to you in a glass, I mean, it’s noticeable, uh, that they skimp on the luxury here. Five-star hotels, chalets, the street with luxury shops, as we can see behind, because yes, even if you see the chalet-like houses, made of wood around, that doesn’t mean that it’s not luxury, because that’s what represents part of the luxury here, which is one of the towns that remains that way, where by law you can’t build buildings or anything like that, but very chalet-like and all that, but inside those chalets there are shops like this Valentino, among others that we’ll be seeing. throughout the video. There are five-star hotels here, and the truth is, super-luxurious spas, and as I said, chalets that are quite expensive to rent. It’s more famous here for skiing because it’s one of the places with the largest ski slopes in all of Switzerland, more than 200 km of pure ski slopes. So it’s a A luxurious ski destination par excellence. Afterward, you can come and relax in these hotels or chalets with spas, all after skiing, or come shopping on this famous street here. But let’s continue discovering what more hidden secrets this city has in store for us, and at this very special event. [Music] Wow, the car. And now we’re off to one of my favorite parts, which is tasting quesito (small cheese). There are several places here with different types of cheese, some slightly older than others, but they’re local products and very different. Don’t think that all the cheese here tastes the same. Each one has a unique flavor and depends on the tradition of how the family makes it. So let’s go because all these samples are free. Let’s go and see if we can buy any products in a larger size. Let’s go. [Music] It’s like parmesan [Music] This one is from 2023. David grabbed one from 2019 and this one is from 2023. [Music] Amazing [Music] [Music] [Music] And a super traditional food for this holiday and in general for Switzerland is Raclette. But this time we ordered raclette bread, which comes with the bread underneath and they put all the raclette cheese on top, but you can also have it with potatoes and stuff like that. Let’s try it. The truth is that it’s super cheesy. You can put some spices on top, but I like the cheese just like that. It was warm. The cheese isn’t strong at all, it’s good. It depends more or less on how much you leave it, sometimes it forms a golden layer. But the truth is, it’s very delicious. But this food has to be eaten quickly so that the cheese doesn’t get hard . But let’s enjoy this delicious feast. [Music] [Music] [Music] And it couldn’t be missing the Jodel, which is a traditional form of singing originating in the Alps, especially Switzerland, Austria, and southern Germany. Something I personally liked is that there was a program for both families and music. The tourist motto of this city is “Calm down slow down,” which invites you to relax , to enjoy the moment, and of course, in its wonderful spots, uh, restaurants, hotels, chalets, you come back in a more relaxed way, which does make a difference compared to the tourist destination of St. Moritz, where it ‘s known that people like to party much more. They have different festivals, and if you want to see these videos, as I mentioned before, they can be found here on the channel, but the difference is quite noticeable. I couldn’t compare the two towns because they are both unique. The Gstaad Palace Hotel is the icon of the city. Thanks to it, it attracted a lot of tourism. It was inaugurated in 1913 , and since then, the popularity of this destination has begun to grow. Thanks to its innovative, rather glamorous, and luxurious design, many people have come to this city, and you can see it all the way down the main street through the small openings. You’ll be seeing it right behind me. Here in this town is the Le Rosey boarding school, which costs more than 130,000 Swiss francs to enroll for a year. But it’s said to be a very good school, and well, it costs that much for a reason. It’s one of the many interesting facts this city has to offer. [Music] [Music] [Music] Let’s see, the last family. On our way to the supermarket, we found the last family, so we did manage to see all the families. As is well known and a tradition on this channel, I always take them to the supermarket in any city we visit because it’s one of the most economical ways to eat or get drinks in Switzerland. It’s known that prices are quite high in restaurants, and we wanted an easy meal and drinks because we wanted to take the train so we could go to another destination and not waste time in a restaurant. There’s the train station, sorry. And you follow this little corridor. And on the right, you’ll find Coop , and it takes about 3 minutes to walk. And we’re on time. We’re going to another destination, since the celebration here was small and the last family left. We took the train back along the same route we took, but now we were going to modify a part and we’re going to stop at Espies to be able to visit the city. Just last month we visited it, and there I’ll explain more, I’ll show you more about what you can do here, what you can eat, etc., here in the video. That’s why this time we decided not to record that much of the city and just enjoy the views. Do you remember when we bought groceries at the Gstaad supermarket? Well, we bought some salads and had a picnic, enjoying the weather and the beautiful views. [Music] David took the camera and took several shots for you while I was doing a live broadcast on TikTok. So, follow me there too, because I occasionally share live shows showing you different parts of Switzerland while we’re on our adventures. But we were here waiting for this boat coming from afar so we could take a kind of tour like the one my friend and I did, the one on the canal. But we had a very different surprise: this boat didn’t take the same route; it took a very different route than the one we’d seen before. It turns out that instead of traveling on the right side of the lake where you’re seeing all this, we were traveling on the opposite side. So, that side didn’t have as many views, as many cities, as many villages as the other side. Of course, we did get another view of the castle. The best thing about traveling through Switzerland is how easy it is to combine different experiences in a single day. Hiking through alpine villages, sailing by boat on lakes like Tun, and returning comfortably by train—a country where traditions are kept alive and at the same time everything is within easy reach for travelers.
