アゼルバイジャン:有名な旧市街を歩く🇦🇿(2000年)

Hazer’s use rugs to block the heat. Oh, look
at this. Fared alv. He was a martyr. Oh, this is beautiful. Right around the corner from
all that history, you got a BMW dealership, Rolls-Royce dealership over here.
Dip it in. Get it a little wet. That’s it. M. Wow. Very good stuff. What’s
up everybody? Welcome to Oldtown Baku. I’m in probably one of the most historical
parts of Azarbaijan right now. Some of the buildings here date back to over
a thousand years. It’s a major UNESCO heritage site. You get some beautiful cats
everywhere. Look at those eyes. God damn. We’ll talk later. You have this building over
here which looks like it’s a mosque if I’m not mistaken. Let’s go check it out. One thing you’ll
notice, cobblestones everywhere. And it’s very windy. Baku is one of the windiest cities I’ve
ever been to in my life, which is good because in the summertime it gets really hot. You’ll see
during the day you won’t see that many people outside, but when you come out in the evening when
the sun goes down, it gets really busy over here. No. Could you chill out? This cat keeps following me. Now we’ll head
over to the fortress gates and then come back and head to the maiden tower which is that
way. These buildings are all so beautiful. You could spend a lot of time here in this old
town. Look what else I found in the old town. Metro station. Their had metro stations 1
thousand years ago. Yeah, as I mentioned, you’ll see like a lot of coffee shops and
restaurants. This building is obviously newer, but they made it blend in to the history of
the old town. It’s very nice. Look over here. This is a bus stop. Your bus stop is part of
a building that’s over a thousand years old. You have these guys here. Are they drying this?
Yeah. No, it’s not. What? Oh, I thought he was I thought he put it on his car to dry it.
He did it to block the heat in his car. Use rugs to block the heat. This is another hotel
that’s blending into the old town. Obviously, you could tell it’s new. It’s not like these
bricks over here. They also list their deals. So for eight manut you get a waffle and a
milkshake. That’s actually not a bad deal at all. You’ll see a lot of these types of shops
selling rugs and little souvenirs for tourists. They have scarves. They even have the hats that
Khabib wears. I call these the hats that Khabib wears. It sort of looks like it actually. It’s a
little bit different. These ones look smaller than the ones he wears. The only reason I’m calling it
that is because I actually don’t know the name of it. I know he’s not the first person to invent it
or to start wearing it. Somebody tell me the name. use maps or ask people how to get around
because this place is amazed. It’s very easy to take one wrong turn and you’re somewhere
else now. You’re in a different country. Yeah. Uh pardon. Yeah. Nice to meet you. I was just
taking a picture of these four cats and then this lady opened the door. An
bu. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, they’re going in. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah. I was taking
a picture of these four cats over here sleeping on these steps and she
opened the door. She got so scared. Okay. Okay. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Okay. Okay. Go this way. I told you one wrong
turn. This place is like a maze. Very, very tight roads. It’s very hard to know. I wonder if Let I
haven’t even checked if Google Maps works properly here. I’ll try, but ask around. People will help
you. People are generally very nice. Oh, look at this. Fared AliV. He was a martyr. The house that
the picture was on of the martyr. A lady came out of the house and I was just standing there,
right? I was reading the sign and then I’m like, “Do you mind telling me where the Shivancha Palace
is?” And she brought me all the way here. Pretty sad. She was such a nice lady. So, yeah, I’m here
at the Shivancha Palace. And right over there, you can see the flame towers. Wow. Great views
from here. You have some people that damage it. Look at this. Look at all this. People are
carving their names and who knows what else into here. You actually got a beautiful view
of Azarbaijan over here. Look at all these buildings. Very nice. Hi. Do I need a ticket? How
much is it? 15 months. 15 month. Do you take visa? Yes. Yes. Okay. For one person. You are one.
One person. Yes. Where are you from? on you. Where? Oh, here. Here. Okay. Thank you so much. Oh, this is beautiful. I always have to make that noise
when I’m somewhere like this. Maybe I’ll stand right there and make it ready. What other people do in these places
versus me? People come here, take pictures, they’ll stand and look at this for like 3 hours
and analyze the situation. Meanwhile, I’m here this way. Okay. Yeah, I could
go in through here. They have a massive tour going through here right now. Their map is very interesting. If you
look, they have this massive piece of land over here and then there’s a
space in the middle and then they have land again. I think now that all those
people left, I think I’m the only one here. [Music] If you’re coming here in the summer,
prepare yourself. There’s no AC in here. It’s It’s really hot. Like,
I’m sweating like crazy right now. This is how you spot East Asians. Whenever
it’s sunny, look for the shade and they’ll all be huddling up under there. It’s
so interesting how they hate the sun, but in Western countries, everybody goes
out to tan as soon as the sun comes out. Look at these steps. About half an
arm. Shivan Shaws were in great shape. These are actually the main gates right over
here. But there’s a lot of construction going on for the F1 race. They’re putting bleachers
everywhere, blocking off the sidewalks, the roads. Generally speaking, nobody in
Azabaran has bothered me or asked me to buy anything except here. But it’s not that bad. It’s
people handing out pamphlets to see if you want a tour. All you say is no and that’s it. They
let you go. Sometimes they’re interested in knowing which country you came from, but that’s
it. Nobody’s pushy over here when it comes to sales. And one thing I forgot to mention that
Shivon Empire, so the palace we were just out, the empire lasted almost 700 years. It’s a long
time. Something else that’s interesting and I’m mentioning it because I’m Iranian. I’m Persian.
Right now today, a lot of Azeris speak obviously their own language which is Azeri. It’s a
Turk language and they also speak Russian. That’s because of the Soviet Empire and the
Russian Empire. But during the Shivancha times, we could have spoken to each other because
they spoke their own language again obviously, which is Azeri Turk, but they also spoke Persian.
So there was a time not that long ago, probably I’m guessing about 200 roughly years ago, I could
have been in Baku speaking Farsy and people would understand me cuz that was their second language.
So in the modern borders of Iran today, there’s tons of Azeri speaking people, like millions
upon millions, more than the actual population of Azarbaian itself. It wasn’t until the Russian
invasion of the Caucus that everything changed. Treaties were signed and the caucus pretty
much switched over and over hundreds of years, people adopted Russian language, Russian alphabet,
Russian culture, and everything changed. Anyways, enough of a history. Let’s Let’s check out this
Maidon’s tower before we go look for some food. Hey, bro. This is Maidon, right?
Yeah. Thank you so much. Look at that. So, I wonder if you have to pay to get
in. I’m not sure. I don’t see anywhere that says ticket office. The other one
I believe was 15 man. Very small place, but worth a visit, especially if you’re into
history. We are open every day. Oh yeah, there is a ticket office. Hello. How much is
the ticket? 15. Perfect. Give me one second. So, let me explain to you quick. Nobody really knows
what this building was used for. Some people say it was a Zoroastrian temple, which doesn’t make
sense to me because I didn’t see anywhere where you could set up a fire. Some people say some
guy got married and he didn’t want to be married, so he jumped off it, which is also a crazy story.
I think the one that makes most sense, the Caspian Sea is right there. Maidon tower is right
there. I think it was a watchtowwer. That’s it. And then right around the corner
from all that history, you got a BMW dealership. You have a Rolls-Royce
dealership over here somewhere. I don’t know if it’s this way or that way. There’s
a Lamborghini dealership. There’s a Austin Martin. There’s a Ferrari. Baku has it
all. They’re not missing out on anything. Who is giving this cat all the paclava
in Baku? Why is this cat so fat? I feel like this place would have
some real Azeri food. Let’s see. Well, it doesn’t get more traditional than this.
I asked him for Azeri food. Azeri breakfast. He said, “I’m going to bring you some eggs.” I told
him to bring me some cheese, too, cuz I don’t know why I feel like having cheese. And I told him
to bring me some azeri chai. So, he brought my cheese. He brought my tea. Little lemon on the
side. And then he also brought my sugar cubes. A lot of you don’t know what this is unless
you’re from this part of the world. So, I’ve only seen Iran and Azar Baanis
do this. I’ll show you how it’s done right now. You could either leave this in
your mouth while you’re drinking tea or you could dip it in a little bit first.
Get it a little wet. Yeah. And then you keep sipping and the tea goes through the
ice cube. The ice cube. The sugar cube. That’s it. So instead of putting it in and
stirring it in the tea, you just leave a sugar cube in your mouth. I asked him for a breakfast,
a eggs, stuff like that. He brought me this. In my head, I was thinking Azeris would have their
eggs more scrambled with some tomatoes in there, stuff like that. But I don’t know, maybe I
ordered the wrong thing. Nine manuts, some cheese, some azeri tea. Not bad at all in my opinion.
The staff was very nice. It was funny as I was leaving like 5 10 minutes before these two Azeri
guys walk in. They ordered two beers each and they just start chugging. 11:30 in the morning.
Insane. And I have no idea where I am right now. I just came for a walk just aimlessly. No maps on,
no nothing. And I’m just in love. I’m just walking around enjoying the city. This is gorgeous. I
see there’s a mall there called Nargas Mall. Bunch of restaurants over here. I really like
this area a lot. Look at the Look at the ground. But cool better be on your travel
list. That’s a very nice place. Is it hazel? Not one. Which one is the original one? Yeah. Walnut. Walnuts. Walnuts and
hz. Okay, I’ll take that one. Thank you. I’ve had paklava before. I’ll tell
you guys right now. My mother-in-law, she’s she makes it for me all the time. But
I’ve never had the real deal from here in Azarbaijan. I’m sure it’s going to be great.
I got two pieces for eight manuts. Not cheap at all. But this is just the price of sweets
around the world. Sweets are typically more expensive wherever you go. The guys over there
were super cool. I told them I’m Canadian, born and raised, but originally I’m so many
people here, a lot of their grandparents lived on the other side of the border and because
of the Russian wars and stuff like that, their families got split up. Here, let me put
this down. Their families got split up. So, it’s not uncommon to have Azeris that have family
lineages on both sides of the border. There was even some villages along the borders of Iran
and Azaraijan because of the treaties and when Russia was drawing the borders when they lost
the war, families got split up. Like a village would get split in half. So you could have had
a sister or a cousin that lived on one side of the border and one that lived on the other side.
Crazy, man. Anyways, let me show you guys. This is Paklava. I got two small pieces. Eight man.
Looks good. I’ll tell you right now. He said they don’t use any garbage ingredients. He said they
take a lot of pride. The place is called Chinar. M. Wow. Oh my god. It sounds like baklava, but it’s not
baklava. It’s a much thicker pastry. It’s fantastic. M. Wow. The one I just
had was walnut. This one’s hazelnut. God, it is so good. If I lived here, I’d be eating
this every single day. What kind of Ferrari is this? This is the new one, right? That’s a sick
ride. I love this so much. So, I was mentioning a lot of the roads, the sidewalks, they’re all
blocked off. Thank god I got on this side. I’m going somewhere over there. Just want to let you
guys know I pay for everything myself. my flights, my hotels, food, taxi, you name it. Whatever you
see me spending, it’ll mean a lot to me if you guys subscribe to my channel. It cost you 0 and
it helps me out a lot. Thank you so much. It is so hot, guys. Peak peak peak afternoon. It’s over
30°, but the sun is so strong here in Baku. I got this water just to cool myself down a bit.
By the way, look at these views. We started from old Baku. Now look at this modern Baku.
This is how windy Baku is. It’s so windy here. It’s just a normal day in Baku, guys. It’s it’s
it’s a very windy city. Anyways, I’m going to head to Second Cup. I’m actually curious to see
if it’s the same one that we have in Canada. It’s the Gloria Jeans. And then they have Second
Cup. And then they have Starbucks right next to It’s the same second cup as you guys
could see. Canadian flag here. They have a Canadian flag inside too. He told
me there’s nine locations in Baku now. Second cup. That’s wild. A random Canadian
coffee company in Azaraijan. That’s crazy. Okay. Okay. So I’m in a residential area now. Look how cheap
the food is. I got this one for80 manutach. It’s meat koutab. Koutab is the one I was having
the other day which is like one of their main dishes over here in Azar Bjan. And all along this
neighborhood people are selling fresh vegetables and fruit. Looks really good. All fresh. You
could tell it’s all from here in Azar Bjan. It’s fig season. You see figs
everywhere right now. Very good stuff. And these are their grapes. Look how
small these grapes are. I’m going to enjoy this pub. I’ll see you guys in the
next one. Goodbye from beautiful Baku.

  1. 2:40 It's a papakha. It's a traditional ethnic hat of dagestan people. People in America mistakenly thought he was wearing it to make fun of that blond haired dude who would pretend to be fouled I forget his name, but he explained once he wears it to symbolize when his people would go to war. I guess it's worn by their traditional warriors or just a common sheep based hat to keep warm lol.

Edit: Sugar cubes are a thing in the west. But I think it's mostly like, something that went out of fashion and was just put into tea/coffee not in the mouth directly lol. Sugar cubes in general tho, I don't think I've seen or heard about them since I was a kid.
