Hello, this is Inomata from Neige. Thank you for always watching my channel . This channel features my daily life and overseas travels . It’s been a while since my last video, but I plan to update more frequently from now on, so please subscribe and check it out . In this video, I’d like to share the total cost of my one-month trip to Europe from May to June 2024, which I’ve covered so far . I’ve also made a brief summary, so you can watch it while getting a sense of how much it cost . I’ve also included chapters, so you can skip ahead and use them. As with my last video, I never compiled a list of my actual expenses, so this time, I’ve decided to revisit it one year after my trip . Please take a look at the summary. This time, I traveled using ANA award miles. First, I flew ANA business class to Singapore. This was my first time flying business class, so I remember being excited from the airport lounge . My first stop was Singapore. 帰りましたら、鎌倉 旅をしてきましたう。 English : I was in transit in Singapore, but stayed at a transit hotel and then took part in a free tour. The free tour is a free event organized by Singapore. The tour lasted about 2 or 3 hours, but after that I had some time before my flight so I met up with some viewers, went around to craft stores, and was treated to a meal. It was a short time but I had a really great time. I also got to see a waterfall. To save money, I had dinner in the airport lounge. This time I was heading to Paris, France, on a late-night flight. I was only there to sleep on the plane, but I got a seat at the very back for two, and it was with a family. My goal in Paris was to climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe, so my first stop was on top of the Arc de Triomphe . I stayed at an Airbnb. I was able to stay at an Airbnb within my budget , but the hotel was just too expensive. I chose an Airbnb, but it was still expensive. I thought it would have been better to stay closer to the city even if it was a little more expensive, but my host was very kind to me so I was very satisfied. During my stay in Paris, I went to Montmartre, a textile wholesale district. I found some great fabrics there and did a lot of shopping. I also enjoyed some French cuisine . The escargots were quite delicious. There’s a famous street near Notre Dame Cathedral. Next, I headed to Lisbon. Actually, I think it was the day before I left for Lisbon, but I got a little sick in Paris. I felt a bit feverish, but I managed to get through it. As I was waiting for my flight to Lisbon, I got a business class ticket, so even though I had miles, it seemed like I could only choose business class seats. The boarding gate was also a fast lane, so I was able to line up right away, but I was so sick I couldn’t even stand for five minutes. Once on the plane, I was able to drink alcohol, but I couldn’t stand up without sitting down. So I stayed at a hostel for one night, but since I arrived late at night, I stayed in a dormitory. Even though I wasn’t feeling well, the hostel had a free tour of the city , so I decided to join it. Apparently, you can still explore the city even if you’re not staying at the hostel. I spent the morning walking around. I continued walking around despite feeling unwell, but by the afternoon, my throat started to hurt and I felt like I was running a fever. I knew something was wrong, so I headed to the hospital . They diagnosed me with tonsillitis , but since there were a lot of people around me coughing, I thought maybe I’d caught it, and now I’m thinking maybe it was COVID. My fever went down the next day, but I gave up on sightseeing and just relaxed at the hotel . I didn’t get to see much of Lisbon, but even just walking around was relatively enjoyable. Next, I headed to Morocco . I flew from Lisbon to Marrakech on a low-cost carrier. It was my first time flying over Africa, so the view from the plane was different from usual and refreshing. I usually fly over places with buildings, but the whole thing was a desert area, which felt really strange. I was given some antibiotics at the hospital in Morocco, but the side effects were a bit strong and my stomach was always upset. On top of that, the Moroccan food was quite spicy, which made my condition worse . There’s a kind of unique music called zaan that plays over time, and it made me feel a bit unwell. Combined with the loneliness of traveling alone, I was feeling a bit negative at the time. I spent hours holed up in my room working on my computer, and other times watching YouTube to calm my mind . On my last day in Marrakech, I started to feel much better, and I found a riad I was looking forward to staying there, so I went there on my last day and enjoyed my final stay . So I’m a little disappointed that I couldn’t go to the desert or do any sightseeing. I really wanted to go to the desert, but I was a little close to the bathroom. I feel like overseas medications are a little too strong for Japanese people, so I think it’s important to bring your own medication, and I really regret forgetting it this time. I recommend everyone to always bring your regular medications. Next, from Marrakech, we headed to Fez. When I was researching Morocco, I was looking at places people were going to, and I thought I wanted to see it, so I added it. From Marrakech, we took the train to Fez. It was a train through the desert. I think airplanes have business class and first class, but this train also has first class. The seats were quite spacious and there were reserved seats, so it was quite comfortable. There was also a cart selling bread, juice, and drinks on the train, but it was cash only, so I didn’t know how much they were. Actually, I usually pay with a credit card, so I didn’t have much cash on me, so I only bought the one drink I could afford. From there, I was probably on the train for about six hours, and I was feeling hungry, but I was holding back a bit, but I guess that was showing on my face. The couple sitting across from me asked if anyone was there , and tore off half of the bread they’d bought and gave it to me. I thought they must have been looking at me with envy, and although I didn’t have any money, I was really grateful because I didn’t have any cash. I wondered if they must have thought I was a child, even though I was an adult , or if they must have thought I was traveling on a budget . But I was really touched and grateful for their kindness . We couldn’t communicate, but I was able to convey my gratitude with just a little expression. The bread was a simple piece of French bread with cheese sandwiched in between, and it was a little salty. The unique Moroccan bread that had been served for breakfast until then was a little bland, so I ate it with butter or honey. I get a little tired of it, so I had to go to a simple French baguette with cheese sandwiched in between, but it was so delicious I’ll never forget it. Speaking of Fez , while I was staying in the city , I wanted to visit a leather tannery, so I was heading there. When I arrived, I saw a tour recommended by a riad with a guide who spoke fluent Japanese, so I signed up for it . I spent the whole day with the guide, walking through the maze-like narrow streets of Fez, and it was a lot of fun. However, as with tours, I was taken to souvenir shops, which was a bit harsh for me, as I find it hard to refuse. However, the artisan towns were really worth seeing, so I highly recommend it. Next, I headed from Fez to the town of Chefchaouen. I traveled by bus. Chefchaouen is famous for being the blue city, and I actually came across it by chance while researching Morocco. I was excited to see what it meant for the entire city to be blue, and when I arrived, the entire area was so blue that it could be seen from afar. The hotel I stayed at was right at the entrance to the souk, so it was a very comfortable stay. I was even upgraded to a suite for free. So the terrace was right in front of me, with a great view, and the room was spacious and comfortable . Walking through the souk in the morning was also a lot of fun. However, if you’re not careful, you’ll find dog poop scattered on the side of the road. It’s pretty dirty, so you have to be careful. There were also dogs roaming around freely, and since I’m not good with animals, it was a bit scary. They were well-behaved, but there were a lot of cats. Next, I headed to Tangier. I traveled through the city of Tangier by bus. Morocco is like Marrakech at the bottom, followed by Fes and Chefchaouen , and Tangier is at the top. On the way to Tangier, I saw a green lake that I saw on the bus, and it was so beautiful that I thought I’d like to make a detour there next time. I headed north to Tangier to get to Spain, but I was actually planning to cross by boat. I had been thinking about this for a while, but I couldn’t get a sense of the location just by looking at a map, so I gave up and stayed in Tangier for one night and flew from there. Even from there, it was actually quite difficult. When I arrived at the bus stop in Tangier, I had very little cash. I had some euros but no dirhams, and there weren’t many places outside that accepted credit cards , so I asked the taxi driver to stop at an ATM , but it seemed like the transaction didn’t go well , so he ended up taking me all the way to my Airbnb. I had euros and cash, so I combined the euros and the local currency and gave him the money. I think I had about 8 euros on me, so I was really low. I wonder how much 8 dirhams is? I probably only had about 100 yen. Since I was in that state, I couldn’t do anything about Airbnb, so I just stayed where I was staying . I didn’t have any cash, so I walked to the airport the next day . Uber wasn’t available, and I’d originally booked a hotel close to the airport, so I thought I could walk, but it was actually a lot farther than I’d imagined. It was also hot, and people were offering rides or taxis, but I thought it might be dangerous, so I gave up. Then, just before the airport , a family approached me and offered to give me a ride. I told them I didn’t have any money, but they said it was okay, and they gave me a ride . It was only a short distance, but it was actually quite a long walk, so they were very helpful. By the way, I ended up meeting them again at immigration . So I was able to thank them again. I’ve been told since I was a child not to follow strangers , but you have to be especially careful when you’re abroad . Don’t worry, I do keep an eye on people . I often encounter such scenes overseas , and even when I traveled with my family, I was featured in their photos. So, if I see a traveler in Japan, I always want to say hello. At first , I had a scary image of Morocco, but in the end, I was touched by the kindness of so many people and my heart was warmed. Next, I headed to Barcelona, Spain. It was a direct flight from Tangier to Barcelona, but there was a commotion at the boarding gate, and I wondered what was going on. Then, I heard people saying things like, “The flight isn’t taking off,” and “It’s not taking off until the evening tomorrow. ” I wondered what that was all about, so I found someone who spoke a little English and asked around. Eventually, it turned out that it wasn’t my flight, but there was a Ryanair flight that had been canceled. Everyone was making a fuss and was super angry, and it was scary. I had booked tickets to see the Sagrada Familia that evening, so I was really worried that if I got stuck here, my entire plan would be ruined. I heard from someone that Ryanair has cheap flights but strict terms and frequent cancellations and delays. I’ve heard from others that they’re completely avoiding this airline, so I’ll be careful too. This was my first time in Spain. I’d always seen the Sagrada Familia in textbooks and always wanted to see it in person, so this was a dream come true! When I went inside, it was completely different from what I’d imagined, and the beautiful light was captivating. As you’ll see in the video, I took plenty of photos, so I hope you’ll consider it a place you can visit. Also, I couldn’t drink alcohol at all in Morocco, so I was able to have a drink in Barcelona for the first time in 10 days. The first thing I had after arriving was beer. I laughed while watching the video, but I was also looking forward to Spanish food in Barcelona. Of course, the drinks were great, but the food was also amazing—tapas, pintxos, churros, paella—and everything was delicious everywhere ! Spain has become my number one country I want to visit again, so I’m looking forward to my next trip to Malaga . After Barcelona, I headed back to Nice, France. This time to the south of France. I’ve always dreamed of visiting the south of France, so I was really looking forward to it. By the way, the food at the Barcelona airport lounge was amazing! They also served pintxos, so if you’re planning on visiting a lounge, be sure to check it out! While in Nice, I also visited Cannes, Eze Village, and Monaco. Eze Village’s cactus garden was a highlight . I enjoyed the beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea and the bus trip. In Monaco, I enjoyed the rows of luxury cars and the sightseeing bus ride around the city, which is actually the Monaco Circuit, which is a race track . I hadn’t originally planned to visit Cannes, but a follower of mine contacted me through Instagram DMs and said, “Let’s meet up!” We were both excited, but he drove me around the old town, which I love, and it was a really fulfilling and fun time. I’m not very good at English, though. I think I was able to communicate what I wanted to say. I want to improve, but I’m always thinking about it and not actually doing anything . I hope we can meet again. Even now that I’m back in Japan, we keep in touch through direct messages , so I hope to see you again someday. I didn’t do much sightseeing in Nice itself, but just looking at the Mediterranean was quite satisfying. My last stop was Helsinki. I flew from Nice to Helsinki on Finnair. The lounge at the Nice airport was incredibly crowded, and I was told there would be a 30-40 minute wait , so I waited, but I still couldn’t get in. It seems that business class passengers were given priority. It was a bit disappointing. Helsinki was right during the midnight sun. When I visited in 2023, it was May, but this time it was already June, so even though it was late at night, I couldn’t tell if it was dusk or sunrise. The beautiful gradations of the sky were so beautiful I couldn’t tell. Finnair doesn’t offer free seat reservations, so I had to pay for them, but I luckily got an exit row seat, which was quite spacious. Since there wasn’t a seat next to me, they said I could move to the window, so I was able to sit there . I was really lucky. The plane was delayed when I arrived, probably 30 minutes or an hour. I was just about to miss the last train, so I headed straight to the airport and caught the very last one. I arrived at Helsinki Central Station around 2 a.m. However, the sky was faintly bright, and there was club music playing around the station, so it felt quite lively. Since I only wanted to sleep in a hotel this time , I didn’t want to spend the money, so I booked a hostel. Even the hostel cost about 10,000 yen. It was a dormitory, but it was still pricey. But the dormitory was nice, and I’d definitely like to stay there again. On my second day in Helsinki, I moved to the hotel and enjoyed a comfortable stay . My main goal was to visit the Marimekko outlet, which I was attending as a sewing instructor, and this time I also went there to buy supplies. I also visited the Marimekko outlet near the airport, which I wasn’t able to visit last time, and enjoyed the cafes, restaurants, and Suomenlinna Island, so I was able to spend a relatively relaxing time. I bought so much fabric here that my suitcase filled up. Marimekko canvas fabric is no longer available in Japan, so if you’re planning to go to Helsinki and visit the Marimekko outlet, be sure to pay attention to the materials and make a good purchase . I think your satisfaction will be higher if you choose fabrics that aren’t sold in Japan, so please keep that in mind. Japan often has sales and prices are sometimes lower, so I don’t mind if the price is cheaper or the same as what I would have paid locally . The yen is currently weak, so you might not notice much of a price difference compared to Japan, so be sure to consider your budget when making your purchases. My flight back to Japan from Helsinki was scheduled for a layover in Munich, Germany. I had booked a hotel, or rather an Airbnb, there , but the flight was significantly delayed and I couldn’t leave the airport, so I ended up staying the night at the airport. It was comfortable, and I got relatively good sleep, so it was fine, but I was a little disappointed that I ended up staying at the airport instead . Those kinds of things really add to the authentic feel of the trip, so I think they were a good thing. So, from May 8th to June 8th, I traveled around six European countries and Morocco for a whole month. Looking back, I didn’t encounter any dangerous situations, and although I did get sick, I think it was a great trip . So, what did you think of this summary? I’d like to share the costs of this trip. First, the airfare and local transportation. The total cost for this trip was ¥190,996, or roughly ¥191,000. Since I used ANA award miles, the round-trip fare from Japan isn’t included, so the actual cost of local transportation is ¥190,996. Your total may vary, but here’s what I calculated: My ANA award miles included a flight from Narita to Paris, France, with a transit in Singapore, and then a flight to Lisbon, Portugal. From Lisbon, I arranged my own travel arrangements, and the return flight was from Helsinki to Haneda. Next, accommodation. This time, I was away for a month, so it came out to 29 nights and 31 days. This includes the portion I paid for. The average daily accommodation cost, roughly calculated, was ¥9,600, which I feel I managed to stay within my ¥10,000-per-night budget . Next, food. My total food expenses, including all the countries separately , came to ¥83,153, which averaged ¥2,300 per day . I tried some pretty tasty food, but sometimes I wasn’t that hungry , so I guess this is about average for me. I also used the lounge and ate there in the evenings and for lunch, so I feel like I managed to save quite a bit, even though the food was relatively expensive. Next, the activities are the entrance fees. This includes the entrance fees for things like going to Sagrada Familia and climbing to the top of the Arc de Triomphe. I also took a few buses, so that’s included in the cost of traveling to Spain and Monaco . Finally, this isn’t particularly helpful, but it’s souvenirs and miscellaneous expenses. This is quite expensive, as it was mainly for craft supplies. I was surprised. The total miscellaneous expenses were 158,437 yen , but 205,387 yen, with souvenirs being about 46,950 yen, so it’s about 50,000 yen. I don’t think craft supplies will be a factor for you, so I think you should use this as a reference for souvenirs and miscellaneous expenses . So, the total cost of the trip totaled ¥776,938. Subtracting the cost of craft supplies and fabric brings the total to ¥618,501. This doesn’t include the round-trip flight from Japan, so I’m not sure if it’s actually cheap or not , but I’m surprised I managed to get it all for about ¥10,000. I thoroughly enjoyed my month, and even though some accommodation costs were relatively high in one place, I was able to save a little in others, so I think I managed to average it out. It would be great if I could do this in a hotel, but with the current weak yen, that doesn’t seem likely. So, I finished this trip for about ¥620,000, plus the fabric stand . I hope this helps. I also shared my previous trip around Scandinavian countries using ANA award miles in a video, and I hope you’ll take a look at the costs for that trip as well. If I hadn’t made the video, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to make a table or visualize the total myself, so it was a great opportunity. However, it takes a bit of courage to publish the total . I’ll keep working hard from now on. Finally, I would like to talk about travel budgets. When you go on a trip, you probably decide on a budget, but rather than an overall budget, I first decide on accommodation costs, budgeting for 10,000 to 15,000 yen per night . When I was young, I didn’t have much money, so I would decide on an overall budget for the trip and then plan my trip, which helped me save a lot. For example, if I spent 10,000 yen a day, including accommodation, That’s how it used to be, but now I don’t actually have a set overall budget. I just hope it doesn’t cost too much, but I do set a budget for accommodation . So, looking at the results, I feel like the average I got this time is pretty good . Based on accommodation and airfare , my overall expenses don’t seem too high. My goal is to eat delicious food, see the things I want to see, and have a trip I won’t regret, so it’s not a budget trip, but I still get a bit stingy when I’m there. I guess it can’t be helped, since I’m traveling alone and I like to buy the cheapest things. Compared to when I used to stay in $10 dormitories, I think I’m traveling a lot more luxuriously now . I’m not interested in flashy, luxurious hotels, so I probably won’t see them on my trips . I choose hotels that are reasonably spacious, comfortable, and have plenty of hot water in the shower. I would like to stay in a nice hotel every once in a while, but it’s quite luxurious when I’m alone, and I’m rarely in the room, so I’m always on the go, so I vaguely think it would be nice to splurge when I’m a little older . So, I have a set budget for accommodation , but I try to balance it out for luxury and safety, even if it goes over budget a little . Previously, my budget was around ¥10,000 wherever I went, but when I returned to Japan for the first time in four years in 2023 after the pandemic ended, accommodation costs skyrocketed due to the weak yen . I searched around and found Airbnb, which I found was much cheaper than a hotel, so I started using it on my last trip . Also, overseas, hotels are the same price whether you’re staying alone or with someone else . So, when I was traveling with my daughter, I thought hotel fees were a great deal, but when I’m traveling alone, even the same price can feel quite expensive. So, what did you think? This time, I’ve shared the total cost of my one-month trip to Europe from the perspective of a solo traveler, as well as a summary. I hope it will be of some help to those of you planning to travel. I’ve also been uploading videos , so if you’re interested, I hope you’ll check them out. I’ll be uploading videos on packing and credit cards in the future, so I hope you’ll check them out too . The murals I saw during my recent trip to Morocco were used in a collaboration with Kamakura Swany, which was released in February of this year . Thankfully, this fabric has been so well received that it has now sold out, but we are planning to release a second edition soon, so please look forward to it. In the next video, I will be introducing useful credit cards from the perspective of an ANA Okamai fan, so I hope you will watch the rest of the video. If you enjoyed this video, please support us by clicking the like button, as it will be a great encouragement. Thank you for watching until the end.
