Taichung City | Shigang/Dongshi Districts [台中市石岡/東勢區]
[Music] hello next trip in Taiwan we are in Tai Jong City in Shang district and the first stop is this Tada the Shang Dam this is large Dam um it blocks this River I don’t know what river this is I will check it online and I don’t [Music] know if the dam is used for electricity or for diverting the water to Farms I will find it out so beautiful weather it’s cold in taipe and here it’s warm in [Music] taong here you can see the River on the other side of the dam there a lot of uh birds you can see actually there are uh photographers uh taking photos of r birds in the river over there’s [Music] one oh here we are on the dam you can see not that attractive this is one side where there’s a lot of water and on the other side is it’s much drier of course I haven’t seen any information board where they uh introduced this Dam so I’m not quite sure and here you can see there are people uh photographers shooting birds so there I think there are some interesting ones haven’t seen yet in the far distance is a like a colony of birds not sure what those birds are but I think they feed on fish in the river so I just asked a photographer which birds they are shooting and he said on the island over there there’s a bird of prey I’m not quite sure the English name and I forgot already the Chinese it’s a like a bir with a white hat black body maybe I can go down there and see it more clearly here you can see the dam from the other side very peaceful here the eagle is very far in the distance yeah right by the dam is the small Park which is commemorating the 921 earthquake which happened in 1999 you can see here is an example of the destruction this pipe was like squashed during the earthquake during the earthquake this part of the dam was damaged and and it was not rep repaired afterwards so there’s a lot of fish in the river and to allow the fish to pass the dam there’s a special ow a fish way or fish Road where the fish can slowly make their way from from Upstream to Downstream so Shang district is not known for Shang Dam where we are now this is by the way the daa river and it’s also known for the bike way which goes here and goes to the LV bridge and there’s a Japanese old barn and this is also an area with a lot of Agriculture we have oranges grapes and this is also a place of Haka culture the tuno Haka cultural Hall here we are going there a bit [Music] later quick stop at the Bikeway here in Shang it’s a very famous bike way from to F here we have an old Two Old Railway cars we came here before and we could go inside but now it’s closed it seems and the um the cars are here because the Bikeway is was built on the original Railway line that connects these two [Music] places here we have a map of the dong Fong bicycle Greenway where it comes here’s here it connects to the Hong bik W and then comes here goes all the way through Shang and ends here in dong here’s the dam where which we visited before we are here right now and then it goes we haven’t been here so I would like to go here and see the 14 the MAA station Plum station [Music] [Applause] [Music] here’s another section of the dong Fong Bikeway behind me is mat station ma means Plum and I guess what I’m sitting on are plums not really that special but if you are riding a bike on the dong Fong bike way you can sit here and and um rest and over there you can buy shaved ice and dofu pudding [Music] [Music] Etc next up the Uno Haka cultural Hall also in Shang I’ve been here twice before so it’s nothing new but uh the cherry trees are blooming that’s beautiful [Music] [Music] so here you can see a simple map of the tuno Haka cultural center it’s just a a compound of traditional Haka buildings interestingly that’s typical for Haka Villages is a pond here we have a half moon Pond and there’s a plaza here and then the buildings and the buildings are around the courtyard and in the back I remember there’s a big uh old tree half moon pool the half moon pool is commonly known as the fish pool and generally appears in front of the main entrance of Haka partner rooms and is presented in a half moon shape it has been said that it can accumulate spirits and accommodate wealth by the geomantic theory and has the functions of theaster relief fire prevention and fish farming in the living requirements wow behind the buildings is this giant old bread fruit tree which is really cool [Music] [Music] [Music] traditional instruments [Music] giant molds for making Turtle glutenous rice cakes [Music] that’s about it the tuno hucker cultural center [Music] now we are at another Haka place the Don Haka culture Park which is here donger is this one this area and Sh gang district is this area so we just were we were at tuno Haka cultural park here and then now we are a bit further to the east in the D haka Park lot of haaker culture [Music] here so this is basically a hall with the exhibitions or exhibits here we have an area with um calligraphy which I cannot read and over here are Wood Sculptures very beautiful [Music] [Music] cute granny with an umbrella scenes of traditional Haka life again like in the other place a a mold for making giant turtle [Music] cakes so if you want to learn more about Haka culture can come here have a look checking out the exhibition inside you can go outside they have a Park area let’s go outside so you can see right beside the museum here it’s a very long Park and along the park is the dong Fong bike way so you can combine a visit or you can combine a ride bicycle ride with visiting making a stop here and have check out the museum the there is no shortage of cuteness here in Taiwan this guy is eating oranges on the dong Fong bike [Music] way I believe this is the old original platform of the of the old dong railway station over there they have put some of the old rails on the on the ground incorporating into the park design [Music] [Music] let’s check out a cool temple in D it’s down here bong is I think a landlord Temple like the 2D Kong in Taiwanese culture so here we are wow looks very old and there are cool so that looks like the landlord or the god of the land and behind is a a pile of stones oh super long that’s a very long stone wall and there’s a beautiful Chinese style Pavilion so this is is supposed to be a a car very long carb at the other end there are Banyan trees and down there is a park nice oh that’s looks looks cool the the the roots of the of the tree are all over the stones what a cute Place let’s see from below oh here’s a car sculpture and here’s another Tree on the Rocks wow what a cute place [Music] [Music] [Music]
In February, we visited Taichung’s Shigang and Dongshi Districts where you can find Hakka places and go on bicycle rides.
