Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture, along with Amanohashidate in Kyoto and Miyajima in Hiroshima, is one of Japan’s leading tourist destinations and is said to be one of the “Three Scenic Views of Japan.” This time, we will introduce Matsushima Onsen Oedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Hotel Sokan (hereinafter referred to as Hotel Sokan) in Miyagi Prefecture . Matsushima Onsen is a relatively new hot spring that was excavated in 2008, and is known for its melty hot springs. The long-established Hotel Sokan, which has been part of the Oedo Onsen Monogatari group since 2010, underwent a major renovation in 2024 with the name “Premium.” This video provides a full review of the current spectacular charm of the hotel, along with its history and overview, multiple rooms, baths, and luxurious buffet meals. The video is full of highlights, so please take your time to watch it. We arrived at the hotel looking spectacular. Hotel Sokan History and OverviewHotel Sokan is located a little away from the entertainment district in the center of Matsushima, in a prime location overlooking one of Japan’s top three scenic views . The predecessor of Hotel Sokan was “Matsushima Health Center”, which was founded in 1959.In 1983, the business changed to a hotel, and “Hotel Sokan” was established. In 2009, we succeeded in excavating a private hot spring source 1,500 meters underground on our premises. The source name is “Matsushima Sokan no Yu”. In 2010, it was rebranded under the management of Oedo Onsen Monogatari Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., which operates over 30 hotels and inns nationwide . In July 2024, after a four-month closure due to renovations, Oedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Hotel Sokan opened as the sixth hotel under the Premium brand that the company has been developing since 2023 . The concept of Premium is a modern Japanese hot spring inn where you can relax in a quiet space. Although the price is about 5,000 yen higher than the previous Oedo Onsen Monogatari inn, you can enjoy hospitality in the premium lounge and a higher-grade buffet. The current hotel is a four-story building with three buildings: the Isozaki building on the east, the Takajo building on the west, and the main building, with a total of 133 guest rooms, making it a relatively large hot spring hotel in Matsushima. It has good access, approximately 12 minutes (6.2 km) from Matsushima Kaigan IC on the Sanriku Expressway, and a 15 minute walk from Matsushima Station on the Tohoku Main Line (free shuttle bus available). Let’s enter the building through the profound entrance, which is Western-style yet has a historical feel. The front lobby has a nice and luxurious atmosphere (^^♪ You can even see the terrace in the back^^ Let’s go to the terrace, which is one of the highlights of this renovation.When you get to the back, There is a lounge with a view of the garden. There is a fireplace in the center, and at night a fire is lit, making it a relaxing space. It is a very open lounge with large windows 👍 Let’s go to the garden from here ♪ Outside. The spacious, open terrace offers soothing music, a view of the beautiful garden with pine trees, and even Matsushima in the background.The space becomes even more beautiful at night, so please look forward to it ! You can get your toothbrush from here. Vending machine corner in front of the lobby . Convenient for meeting people when checking in. In the back is the Premium Lounge . Free drinks such as shochu highball, highball, and draft beer are available throughout your stay. There is a relaxing place in the hallway called “Kagura” which has a nice dark atmosphere . There are 3 private rooms. Massage chair corner Large massage chairs are available for free use. Check-in time for dinner is 3 times (depending on how crowded it is), and breakfast is free time from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. This plan is for 1 night and 2 meals. The superior Japanese bed (10 tatami mats ) is on the 4th floor, so the view is from the highest floor. Japanese-style rooms have Matsushima views. It’s a wonderful view that makes you feel like you’re looking at a picture ♪ It’s soothing to sit here and look at the scenery ♪ Originally a Japanese-style 10 tatami room, it was renovated into a Western-style room and turned into a “Japanese bed.” This is your room. In particular, the bed area has been updated.The bed is a semi-double size bed made by Serta. The bed was very comfortable 👍The outlets were the latest and had USB types A and C. The TV is mounted on the wall in the alcove. There’s nothing in the refrigerator. Closet Yukata and toothbrush are brought from the front desk. (At the dinner buffet, about half of the people were in casual clothes.) The face towels were plain.Wi -Fi is available in the room. The communication speed was 8.5Mbps. I can connect to mobile phone signals without any problems (docomo). Next, we will introduce the “Standard Japanese Room 10 tatami mats”. This is a room that has not been renovated. The sink, toilet, and bathroom are almost the same. The Japanese-style room is 10 tatami mats and is on the 3rd floor, but the view is spectacular👍If you value the view, you should choose the 3rd or 4th floor. The wide veranda is carpeted. The futon was already folded in the room. When you go to bed, you will have to lay it out yourself before going to sleep. The closet is similar. Let me introduce you to the large public bath. The hallway is shiny and has a premium feel. First, let me introduce you to the men’s bath. Men’s bath This is a large hotel with a large changing area, so the changing area is quite large. There are three sinks in the washroom (please compare it with the women’s powder space that I will show you later ^^).
